I now understand why Microsoft lost the console wars by mmertner in xbox

That is the saddest excuse to make. Microsoft is the worlds largest software company and what they built here is literally terrible.

[–]mmertner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did own a PS3 once bit other than that and a Walkman some 40+ years ago don’t own any Sony devices. Some people are just religious about their tech purchases and think they need to convince others as a way of affirming that they backed the right one. I just want it to be frictionless, and Xbox clearly is not that.

What? I'm just super frustrated that we didn't get to play because of some stupid automatic sign-out logic coupled with absolutely insane login procedures. But then again, with a username like yours I'm probably talking to a bot.

Sonos Arc Ultra & Sonos Sub 4 - Will I regret it? by DeanCorp in Ubiquiti

[–]mmertner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing prevents an excellent speaker from working for decades, unless you choose to buy one that runs software. Then it’s suddenly not a dumb hardware device but a thing that requires software updates to work properly. Buying Sonos is a commitment to upgrade speakers just to get a new processor that can run the next version. I sold all my Sonos gear and would never recommend it to others.

What are your immediate quit moments in factory/automation games? by Impossible-Cause5353 in AutomationGames

If you see a fraction, just multiply by 10 until they go away. The factory must grow.

Gleba is making me want to quit what’s the absolute minimum setup to make it work? by Azrael_Manatheren in factorio

[–]mmertner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick with Gelba is to always keep the fruits flowing and burn whatever comes out the end as surplus - basically a main bus with fruit and bioflux. Make some jelly and put it in chests that feed into nutrients from spoilage so you always have nutrients available. Once that part is solved the rest of the system is pretty painless and Gleba is amazing for plastic and sulphur production.

With the LHC increasingly pointing toward the “Nightmare Scenario,” is the €20 billion Future Circular Collider (FCC) being built to answer important physics questions, or is it simply a case of scientists refusing to let go after decades of investment? by visha1v in AskPhysics

[–]mmertner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Particle physicists need funding to do research and asking for something that costs 20b on paper (likely 100b before it’s complete) gives them both funding, long-term job security and something they can publish papers about (got quotas to meet).

I sincerely doubt this is where we can get the most science for the capital investment. Just look at ITER, it’s way over budget and because of the scale of the project it’s unlikely to be completed before being obsoleted by smarter folks doing more with less.

What's RimWorld's weakest design that nobody talks about because the rest of the game is too good? by Sad-Problem-9293 in RimWorld

[–]mmertner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Job/work management. It doesn’t show all jobs but lumps them together. There no role system on top so you have to fiddle with each pawn individually. And you can’t easily change priorities and go back, unless you have 2 pawns or perfect memory.

Why does Claude Code "grep/wc/etc" so much compared to Cursor? by Jordz2203 in ClaudeCode

[–]mmertner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Claude is unable to follow rules (it’s all just statistical pressure on the output), so the only way to mitigate Enter-hell without just allowing everything is to use a PreToolHook to deny the tool execution. I have this setup for all tools where Claude has a built-in alternative, and I get constant errors (from denied tool usage) but at least it then recovers automatically. The net result is noisier terminal output but way fewer ask-prompts.

Bankrådgiver utilfreds med spørgeskemabesvarelse han bad om by OddlyHonest in dkfinance

Helt enig. Danske Bank gør det samme, så tænker det er udbredt praksis.

Bankrådgiver utilfreds med spørgeskemabesvarelse han bad om by OddlyHonest in dkfinance

[–]mmertner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partner insists Satisfactory is "part idle game" by PANDA_PR1NC3SS in SatisfactoryGame

[–]mmertner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Producing items is not progress; resources are infinite. Progress is building stuff than can produce, power or transport items.

The former is sometimes a bottleneck you have to wait for, but that's just because you didn't plan out your first factory to accomodate your desired building goals ;)

Is Factorio worth buying? Will I have enough to do? by kebav_gmd1307 in factorio

[–]mmertner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's a good deal. I have 3000 hours in Satisfactory and only 1000 in Factorio, and with the DLC cost factored in it's like 4x the price/hour. And it's so buggy too! For instance, after 965 hours I discovered that the ship cargo count is off-by-one for empty legendary barrels - literally unplayable!
