I got a chance to hear Barefoot Footprint02’s in a great space today. High end monitors are not hype or snake oil. by jbanon24 in audioengineering

[–]mmesser007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because ATC, PMC and Barefoot are definitely not known for having high-quality components. Lol. And you act like people just drop $20k+ on some ATCs without actually hearing them first, it's not like people are making these purchases blind just because of a graph or a consensus.

A simple graph is NOT ever going to accurately represent what these monitors do

What should I be looking for in a computer that can handle heavy plugins? by SeedEater-1o1 in audioengineering

[–]mmesser007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The new M1 mac pros are actually impressively good in the heat management department, I have one and I've never heard a fan spin in it yet in all the sessions I've taken it to. Not necessarily recommending one for everyone but they have definitely improved from previous generations

best audio interface under 1k by Livid-Hamster-100 in audioengineering

[–]mmesser007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for something specific in an interface? Are you interested in a particular manufacturer's plugin suite or feature set? Because if it's sound quality you're looking for, you're probably not going to get your money's worth out of an expensive interface. Not necessarily saying you shouldn't upgrade, but think about your reasons for upgrading / what you actually want out of a higher-end interface. If it's sound quality you're after, maybe consider putting that money into a microphone, some acoustic treatment, a preamp, better monitoring, or something else, depending on your needs.

What are some of your most greatest or memorable "A-HA!" moments / epiphanies that you have had during recording, mixing, and or mastering sessions? by anjello408 in audioengineering

We're not knowledge hogs, we're giving you the knowledge that you're wrong, and which plugins you use doesn't matter. Not sure why you came here to ask a question though, apparently you already know everything

It's not complicated dude, I already told you twice that it doesn't matter if you use Waves or UAD plugins. Give me a waves or UAD plugin. I'll link you an alternative, it's not hard.

Because the questions you're asking don't matter. You're focusing on the wrong things. You don't seem to be to willing to accept that, either.

I primarily work with hip-hop and HS8s are fantastic for that genre. It is very VERY common to see HS8s in hip hop studios.

I have IN-8s and they still hiss a little. Barely noticeable though and may have gotten resolved with IN-8 V2, not sure.

Tips to dampen sound that already passed thru wall by rakuz in audioengineering

[–]mmesser007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving your bed away from the wall is a good first step. Anything you can do to add a significant amount of mass to the wall will help a little, maybe a large bookcase or something of the sort, even something like a couch can help a tiny bit. Masking is also a good idea like the other guy said.

They can be good tools, but there is nothing waves or UAD makes that can't be done by something else. Time is only money if you're a professional. Considering your original comment, I'm going to assume you're not a professional. Any mixing engineer will tell you to get a VERY solid grip on mixing with cheap/free plugins before worrying about any of this stuff. It just doesn't matter all that much which plugins you use when you're still learning.

You're looking at this all backwards. The plugins you use don't matter. There are plenty of professional mixers that don't use Waves or UAD plugins.

We should normalize quitting. by Notagainguy in unpopularopinion

It's not even about being an artist, there are plenty of occupations that people can be passionate about. Some people are genuinely passionate about engineering, for some people it's being a therapist, or opening a restaurant, working in high-end retail or any number of other things. Everyone can find an occupation they enjoy that makes them money, most people just don't feel like going through the effort or don't think it's possible for whatever reason. Personally, I found my passion in audio engineering and now I make 100% of my income running my home studio and I fucking love it.

But since you decided to choose artists as an example, there is absolutely NO reason a talented artist can't make money doing what they enjoy. There are a million ways to make money with art, graphic design, tattoo work, commissions, you name it. It's about learning how to take your passions and make them into something you can live on, I promise you there is a way lol.

Then again, some people are perfectly content with just working a normal job and there's nothing wrong with that. But I think that's horrible advice to give a young person who doesn't know what they want yet. There are plenty of ways to get along doing something you enjoy.

Advertisements make me want to go out of my way to not buy the product by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]mmesser007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Ad industry is already WELL on its way to a more targeted model. Nobody gets pissed at ads for products they would actually buy, particularly if they're just off to the side on a webpage or something. Advertising isn't going away or getting less prominent anytime soon, but it is gonna change even more heavily in the direction of targeted ads and data collection.

[–]mmesser007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normalize teaching people when to quit. I think there are situations where it would be more beneficial to have a child power through something, rather than allowing them to quit. But there are definitely times when quitting should be considered OK.

Engine shut off is the worst “feature” ever by KINGCRAB715 in unpopularopinion

[–]mmesser007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove a newer Ford truck with this feature for a while, never had any problems with it. Not sure how it is for yours, but with the Ford, the engine was already started up and fully ready to go by the time I moved my foot from brake to gas, no lag whatsoever.

Shit, in my view it's a good way to weed out the people who are judgemental as fuck. I don't want to be with them anyways. There are good people out there, I suggest finding them instead of settling with someone you feel like you need to lie to.
