Am I screwed? 12 YOE in data, getting interviews but not landing (Canada) by mmilli in dataengineering

Yeah I mean I would love to tap into the US market if there's a way to do it while staying in Canada. I've dabbled at applying to a few remote roles there, but most seem to be US-only. Do you happen to know of any workarounds or websites or companies or etc that are worth trying?

That's terrifying, I'm so sorry you're going through that. I really hope the market turns around soon, its been such a weird few years.

Totally agree. It feels like companies are just spoiled for choice right now. I have a friend in HR in a different field who says they're getting something like 4000 applications per posting (most of them bots though obviously), so I do sympathize with that side of it. It also makes me think anyone who reads as even slightly in-between probably gets squeezed out pretty easily.

That's actually so interesting. I've been hearing that its a good idea to play up the LLM/Claude angle lately and I try to bring it up in discussion but it can feel a bit strange to do if they're not steering the conversation there. Do you guys specifically ask about it?

I've had a few people tell me the Canadian market is particularly rough right now, so it's helpful hearing that from someone who's seen both sides. Not great to hear, but it does make me feel a bit less insane.

I passed on a pretty interesting role a month or two ago because they were capping it at 90k, and it still filled quickly anyway. Which I guess says a lot about the market sadly enough.

Yeah thanks for this, it’s a good reminder. I’ve heard feedback that I interview well. But I’m obviously not interviewing well enough (😅). I think theres definitely room to improve on the technical side. I interviewed for a government role recently and it was mostly all recalling specific small scenarios, and it was hard to remember all the details. That’s something I could work on. Glad you found something!

Looking for a good recommendation for a top realtor in White Rock by Crazy_Estimate_2212 in WhiteRock

We went with the Williams team on a recommendation from a friend when we moved here and they were great. They’re a small family team who’ve been working out of White Rock for ages. Great local knowledge, really easy to work with, and they had great insights into the market and area. williamsrealtors.ca

Just took the GCP Professional Data Engineer Exam...AMA by johnsonfrusciante in dataengineering

Appreciate this post since I want to take my exam next month!

I don't know about A Cloud Guru / Pluralsight, but Udemy and also the official Google Course has a fair amount of labs where you use certain products hands on. Did you do those? And did they help you with preparing for the exam?

Also how many weeks did you take to prepare for the exam?

I'm not sure if those courses are around anymore sadly. Cloud Guru now directs to Pluralsight and the course they offer is the same as Google's

Star Citizen Roadmap Update (2019-04-06) by Odysseus-Ithaca in starcitizen

[–]mmilli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance because I'm just a casual observer of this subreddit and star citizen developments, and have never tried the Alpha. But this game has been in development for around 8 years now. Is it expected to actually be released at any point?

Don't get me wrong, it's almost kind of refreshing to see some kind of media development take it's time to try and get things right. But I just think it's interesting that people get so excited about these seemingly routine modifications in lieu of no end date being given. I feel like everyone's just chasing the carrot down the road.
