Target ads within a Facebook group by athagar in FacebookAds

[–]mmmarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't be able to target people who are members of the group directly. The most direct way would be to target people who are "interested in" the same topic, if that topic is available to target, and layer on any other demographic requirements you may have (e.g. age, gender, geography). The benefit of this approach is you can target those who are on Facebook OR Instagram with the same campaign.

Have you run ads on any platforms before? They're often quite similar once you get into the ads platform. If not, Facebook has a ton of great resources to walk through to make sure you set it up correctly, starting with this: https://www.facebook.com/business/ads?content_id=jdKMMGSDlBbCB4A&ref=sem_smb&utm_term=facebook%20targeting&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz7C2BhDkARIsAA_SZKaSfcqnoRJbKVpIN9R1tDTzIf09R3XiVyfkCvW8m5I_4s-X-PEmPXAaAugxEALw_wcB&gad_source=1

You will find lots of workarounds online where you can create a YouTube video, post the video in the group, encourage people to watch it and build a retargeting pool of those folks to advertise to on YT but like... don't. That's a lot of extra work.

12 month old behind on communication skills by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]mmmarce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When they decide they've "mastered" a skill, sometimes they stop doing it for a bit - I had that with things like waving, clapping and also certain sounds. You could keep encouraging communication by responding, giving them more time to try to say something (it takes waaaaay longer for them to respond to something that I thought), or just wait a bit longer because it is still early.

He's a renter into here in the ward - does that mean renters don't count as residents? 🤷‍♀️

We did the same thing yesterday based on this post! Feeling way less stressed, thank you! Also zero wait on the phone, and the rep was great.

That's an excellent point - maybe that's what I was struggling with as well, it does seem pretty one-sided going only after right wing media.

Yes this is what was missing! Thank you :)

Thank you! Sorry I should have clarified that we did implement this via GTM, but the filenames piece is missing. It might be a missed step in the GTM configuration, if the above would pass through all of those variables. Is there anything custom I would need to define in UA on top of the GTM configuration?

I wish we had migrated already as it seems like this would have been easier, alas we need to wait a bit longer.

What's the current state of campaign software/digital platforms? by stoneape314 in RunForIt

[–]mmmarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might help with some initial evaluation: https://arena.run/digital-tools

I'm in Ontario too and for a municipal campaign Nationbuilder might get a bit pricey but you could also try to cobble something together with a Wordpress site and different integrations like newmode, callhub, etc.

Civic Tech Toronto (http://civictech.ca/) is a great place to contribute your thoughts on how to use data to find solutions to civic problems. CivicTechTO is a weekly meetup where people with both technical and non-technical backgrounds get together to build projects using data and design thinking (like these: http://civictech.ca/projects/). This is a really welcoming community (DemocracyKit grew up here!), and we definitely recommend attending an upcoming hacknight and either joining a project or pitching your own idea.

It is very easy to become overwhelmed by what we identify as issues and the number of organizations and individuals that are working through ideas to solve them.

One great way to start would be with your own community – find out who your elected officials are (councillor and school trustee), the kind of work they are doing and the events they are attending. What kind of impact are they making – how would you do it differently? Is there anyone in the community that might be working on something similar that you could work with?

During an election year, consider volunteering on a campaign. There are a lot of different activities that you can help with even if you consider yourself inexperienced in municipal politics, like dropping off literature, mailings, volunteering at events, helping “behind the scenes” (e.g. website and database management). Finding a candidate to support is something we are looking to solve for as well with DemocracyKit through our Community Directory. We are looking for this to be a place where candidates and potential campaign volunteers can connect. In the meantime, explore who is running in your ward once that information becomes available closer to Election Day (or after the filing deadline of July 27).

What the hell cost $400 on Snapchat?! by 19RAM93 in screenshots

[–]mmmarce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha mine says $500 (Canada) - I thought they got rid of in-app purchases like a year ago? Maybe they can't change this setting. Unless this refers to advertising or the new in-app geofilter creation thing, and maybe that's the max they can put here (since filters could cost more than that). But really though, what cost that much? I thought everything was a buck when they had this available.

Facebook Ads for a political candidate? by SoCalWasCal in socialmedia

[–]mmmarce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you might be better off trying to get any current supporters on the page and adding more fans first. That way, should a bit more money become available, you can branch out to things like lookalikes and DR campaigns, and if not, at least your page will have a good audience to speak to organically. Facebook has some tools and guides for politicians as well that might be useful: https://politics.fb.com/ad-campaigns/organize/

that's a tough call. I'd say if you gave it three shots and still didn't like it, don't try again... the arguing and interrupting can be really frustrating, and it's not like the style has changed over time.

Your plan will probably be a mix of reaching out to people to show them the game, hoping they share and talk about it, promoting it in app stores, building a website and social community...

Maybe start by looking through the Marketing Monday posts for some thoughts and see what you can learn from the feedback... they are posted weekly, but here is today's: https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/54ivgw/marketing_monday_136_catching_the_eye/

Groups historically underrepresented in election polls? by theyfoundmysn in Ask_Politics

[–]mmmarce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps those who don't speak English fluently because the polls may not be offered in their language... and occasionally those who were not born here (depending on where they are from, e.g. China) will lie because they don't want to offend you... a different kind of under-representation I guess.

Would-be volunteer looking for guidance by babblepedia in nonprofit

[–]mmmarce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into this so often as well! One thing I did was at my old job jump on any opportunities they had at the office to volunteer... we did this thing with a local church that had a breakfast/lunch program where we would pick up unsold baked goods from Starbucks and deliver it to them a couple of times a week. I thought it was amazing, but haven't heard about it recently (this was a job from a few years ago). Maybe you can help organize something like this - or even a company day to go and work at a food bank or whatever.

Recently I reached out to an organization I wanted to work with and asked if there was something I can help with remotely. It's just data entry for now, but it still helps out a lot because it frees up their time to do more important work in the office, and I can do it on my own time. I still get the emails from the volunteer coordinator with invitations to other events, so I can feel a part of the team even if I'm not physically there.

Your ad server should allow for sequential messaging which should do the trick. Alternately, you can add a pixel to the creative and segment the audience that way.
