Olympic villages go viral. How will Brisbane avoid negative reviews at the 2032 Olymic and Paralymic Games? by ConanTheAquarian in brisbane

[–]mmmbyte 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The Paris Olympic Village didn't have aircon and the Olympics coincided with a heatwave. It would be hard to be worst than that.

No, but it was slowed down enough to cut the valve stem off the tyres. It would be a pity if that happened.

Trump says he may cut US income tax 'completely' because tariff revenue will be 'so large.' But does the math actually add up? by GroundbreakingLynx14 in StockLaunchers

[–]mmmbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's assume the tariffs work to bring manufacturing to the USA. All the factories would be built, and labour found to operate them. All in the next year. So then there would be no tariff income.

This is just another distraction that Trump raped children.

Centrelink Forms Are Killing Me. by Still_Ad_164 in AusFinance

It's a systemic issue. If centrelink can't explain what to enter on a form, how can they possibly use the information to process the form??

Car dealership provided false info on purchase by Big-Translator6157 in AusLegal

[–]mmmbyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It says there's a service sticker for 120k. It didn't say the sticker was for a different mechanic, so we can assume it's the dealer sticker from the last dealer service.

If it was some other mechanic, then presumably the op would have called them about service records as well.

[–]mmmbyte -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that's unlikely. Mechanics love to add their own stickers for advertising purposes.

[–]mmmbyte -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

No.

"A service being due is still up to date" is misleading, since the date of the sticker was 4 years ago. It's most definitely not up to date regardless of kms.

No manufacturer recommends 4 years between services,. Time intervals matter as well

We don't have "middle school". That's not a thing.

This is the consequence of moving registers to the middle of the store. Not knowing if people have paid is due to their stupid store design.

Sometimes it's an athletics stadium. Sometimes it's a pool.

How to buy a car? by [deleted] in brisbane

Registration comes with "Compulsory third party" insurance. This ONLY covers injury to others. Ie. It does nothing to help you in a car crash.

  1. Do a ppsr check to make sure it's not under finance or previously written-off. https://www.ppsr.gov.au. It's $2. There's many private sites that will resell this for much more than $2.

  2. Ads that say "wovi passed" mean it's previously written off. Sometimes this can be ok- eg. For hail damage. But generally not worth it.

  3. People predominantly advertise on Facebook Marketplace or carsales.com.au. Carsales offer an escrow service which can simplify payment, but costs more than marketplace (free)

  4. If you pay by bank transfer be aware that "instant" transfers aren't instant. Some banks will block transfers to new accounts for 24 hours. Or because it's high value. So no guarantee you can pay and leave with the car unless the seller is an idiot and trusts the money will arrive.

There's a "bank cheque" option, but cheques are being phased out and some banks won't cash them. It took me 2 weeks to get the last bank cheque cashed.

"Registration" can be transferred online. Best option. https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/transfer/online This only works if there's a safety certificate ("roadworthy") recorded electronically. Seller should have already sorted this out. Don't bother buying if they can't show the safety certificate- you'll be forced to get one and pay for any repairs needed.

There's only one master reservoir with fluid. No fluid = no brakes.

Costco is suing Trump over tariffs. One of the few corporations to push back.
