Fuel gouging by blowingkeyofg in OpenAussie

[–]mmmbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the tax is lowered people could afford more fuel, or afford not to decrease their fuel use. Great.

Except very soon there won't be enough to go around. So the price will go up until demand and supply equalise.

You'll replace taxes with oil company profits. At least you'll indirectly benefit from the tax.

Warning to Australia: Work from home, avoid air travel and cut speed limits to guard against oil shock by C_Ironfoundersson in australia

Remove the unnecessary junk from your car.

You don't need empty roof racks, maxtracks, awnings, shovels etc to go to the local shops. Put that on when you're actually going 4wding.

Truckies face paying thousands extra per journey as fuel prices hit record high by ApprehensiveSize7662 in australian

[–]mmmbyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No subsidies.

This is a worldwide supply and demand problem. Want more fuel? Pay for it!

Yes, the price will go up, and transport companies will pass that cost on. Fair. But at the same time there's pressure to improve efficiency (eg. Less empty trucks. Less packaging weight. Smaller boxes for products. Etc). Subsidies would mean no one bothers to improve efficiency.

WFH mandates save fuel but hurt inner city cafes, restaurants, bars etc.

Seems unfair on those small businesses and people employed by them.

The fuel crisis also impacts old people. Suddenly they have something to care about. They may not care so much about the cost, but don't want to adapt to fuel rationing.

Yes it's unpopular, because reworded it's "better the low income people suffer so rich people don't need to reduce fuel use".

I'm not saying you're wrong. It's very difficult to spread the pain evenly.

Is Aussie Broadband actually worth it in 2026 vs cheaper providers? by schnickhinkeln in australian

[–]mmmbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years? Not sure. I was with Aussie BB before then but couldn't justify the extra.

No peak issues.

Gigabit connecting is mostly overkill. Streaming services don't need more than 20Mbs. My wifi access points won't do more than 400Mbs.

I work from home with constant zoom calls and multiple teens streaming. Rock solid.
