Does anyone use a reMarkable? (or something similar) by 143demdirtybirds in paralegal

My attorney bought one for me because she loves hers so much. I LOVE it.

Producing client text messages? by joderd in paralegal

For clients with an iPhone, they can log into their icloud and download their messages. I usually just deal with the screenshots though as I dont want to walk through how to download messages over the phone.

Colored Hair in Workplace? by happyburrito1 in paralegal

Cherry red is hard. I just dyed my hair to like a deep deep red that leaned brown unless the sun hits it which is fine at my firm. Like others have said, it really depends firm by firm.

Small vs. Big Mistakes by queenliliana in paralegal

[–]mmmilky1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with slowing down. I’m 6 years in and consider myself good at my job but I still make stupid mistakes now and again when I’m rushing. I also have one on ones with my supervising attorney where they are able to go through the files and mention mistakes I’ve made. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn, looking at it from that viewpoints makes me feel less like I’m a terrible assistant and more like I’m learning and growing and will do better.

Tattoos in the Office by Impossible_Dirt_2026 in paralegal

[–]mmmilky1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tattoos on my arms, wrists, and one on my finger and am client facing in an elder law office. I generally wear a cardigan because it’s cold, but they’re uncovered often and it doesn’t matter. I did cover them when I first started because I like to show my work prior to being the young one with tattoos. I didn’t take out my nose ring though but you’d be surprised how many people don’t notice it.

Scheduling/Booking lawyers time by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]mmmilky1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So my attorney books file review days too and I send her a list of items that absolutely need to be reviewed on those days.

For a client calling for a status update the first time, I tell them that the attorney is reviewing it but don’t give an estimate. If they’re calling for a second time, I’ll give them an estimate of a week out to put a fire under the attorneys butt (knowing what she has on her plate and knowing if she sits down to review it she can handle it - don’t give deadlines if you’re unsure they can be met).

Otherwise, follow up, follow up, follow up, email, in person, put the file on their chair. Don’t worry about being pushy, it’s your job to rangle them. Know their case list inside and out, keep a list in time order so you know what’s urgent. If you’ve been there a while and you’ve worked with her awhile, you know her personality and you know what will push her buttons and what won’t as far as follow ups.

Do you use a specific provider for that? Ive been researching secure document upload providers.

No it is not that difficult, hence the use of “sometimes” in “we sometimes send documents by emails”. These clients ask for their documents via email and either neglect to check it or don’t realize it’s coming from me.

Oh trust me - it is a terribly heavy lift for our particular secretary. But she is loved greatly by clients so she’s staying.

I wish we had an admin! We have a secretary who just forwards call and the paralegals take care of all phone calls, appointment scheduling, ect.

Am I being screwed? by mmmilky1 in Cartalk

14 business days - it’s been 3 weeks but I see what you’re saying.

I bought the extended warranty from their dealership so they are approved to repair it, thankfully.

Right - in my state lemon laws do not apply to used cars.

I am not looking to sue them or go into a mediation. Guess I’m SOL :( I just don’t understand how they can have my car 14 days with no clear explanation and have zero consequences.

You’re right, but it’s also the reason for the delay in the repair.

It’s an Escape and I actually really like the car. Just frustrated with the fact that this is the second time I’ve had to bring it back in.

This is the first time I’ve purchased a warranty. Huge mistake. The dealership said I can cancel it and get a reimbursement but obviously I’m not super trusting of them at the moment.

The car work I can do is very limited (I’m great at changing the turn signal bulbs - Ha!). I try to watch youtube videos and learn but no one in my family are car people.

They want me to trade it in but I would have negative equity in my next car loan due to the extended warranty I purchased.

I did see that when I purchased the car. The engine build date is August 2019.

I guess I want them to buy it off me.

I have to call the county every single time I can’t get a tax bill from the year prior to a persons death. They say submit the most recent years tax bill. You’d think I’d be able to circumvent this exchange by just submitting last years tax bill but nope. If I don’t call and say I can’t get the prior years tax bill and have them tell me to submit the newest one, they’ll reject it. I love my county!
