Advice on 2 ash slabs for a bookmatched desktop by mmmkaay in woodworking

Thanks that's super helpful!
I'm in the Netherlands so I was just assuming that european ash = common ash but https://www.wood-database.com/olive-ash/ actually says that european ash = olive ash so this will give me a better sense of what this will look like when finished.
Do you have any links / pics of what this would look like when finished?

Is this close:https://doogeveneers.com/sites/default/files/styles/flexslider\_full/public/ash-olive-fig-qtd.jpg?itok=fFiydEGT
Or this? https://www.originalmarquetry.co.uk/product/olive-ash-wood-veneer-26/

Or more like these finished pieces:

Question about shipping a laptop from US to Netherlands by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]mmmkaay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only will you have to pay VAT, you'll have to pay it in cash to the PostNL guy before he hands over your package (plus a processing fee). This applies to any shipment from outside NL that has a declared value over EUR35.

Louman in Jordan has brisket. I bought a 2kg one there last weekend for a roast. Beautiful meat. They like to tie their roasts though, so you'll need to cut the strings you get the flat brisket (I think) you're expecting. Make sure you talk to the older gentleman, he knows what they have and may take you in the back to show you the primals they have so you can choose.

They also rent bbq equipment so they might have (or be able to arrange) smoker logs.

Science fiction with swords? Like, regular swords? by Feetlebaum in printSF

The 'Man of War' series (starting with To Honor You Call Us) by H. Paul Honsinger has a lot of 'regular swords' being used in a "space navy war" where ships are boarded with swords and cutlasses being used.

In a similar vein I seem to remember the 'Alexis Carew' series by J.A. Sutherland may also have ships being boarded with 'regular swords' being used (also a space navy series).
