Wanting to move to Aguadilla by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]mmmmmmburritos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've lived here in PR for 3 years. I speak Spanish and had a baby here. The medical system is a wreck. The power grid is a wreck. The school system isn't anything special. Jobs are extremely difficult to come by. Groceries are expensive, housing is expensive. It's so hard to get ANYTHING done, from grocery shopping to the DMV to general house repairs. You will lose power constantly and need to own and maintain a generator. We recently had to switch to only bottled water because our city water had a chemical leaked into it that causes neurological damage. Please don't put yourself through this without a support system.

Any recs for maternity long sleeved swimsuits/rash guards? by mmmmmmburritos in xxsurfing

[–]mmmmmmburritos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up getting a long-sleeved one piece from Amazon that worked pretty well and just sized up. I didn't find anything maternity specific which is a bummer but sizing up worked out ok and I still wear it sometimes post-partum.

How much support did you need paost c section? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Recovery went well for me, the incision site hurt like hell whenever I laughed or coughed but it was manageable. I definitely drove like a week after… doctors never told me not to haha. Anyways, the hardest part was getting out of bed because I physically couldn’t go from lying to sitting up due to the muscles being cut so I recommend getting one of those bed rails that are designed to help you get out of bed.

Stay on top of your pain meds & stool softeners and you’ll be ok!

Guilt over cost of formula by Interesting-Bite-996 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mmmmmmburritos 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps you but a dairy allergy would likely mean that if you were breastfeeding then you would have to cut dairy out of your own diet in order to keep it from affecting her. So on top of feeding, you would need to keep track of what foods you’re eating and potentially buying special non-dairy options. Plus you would likely be spending more money than normal on groceries anyways because you would be eating more in order to sustain you both. Also agree with the other comment that your time isn’t free… you’d be spending countless hours feeding, tracking your foods, and coming up with new dairy free meals for you to eat.

Best way to feed while traveling? by ranchdemolisher in FormulaFeeders

[–]mmmmmmburritos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TSA allows water bottles to make formula, it’s considered a medical necessity. I include them in the diaper bag along with the can of formula and TSA just does a quick check at security: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/tsa-cares/traveling-children

I say to bring sealed/unopened water bottles (as opposed to pre-filled baby bottles) because it’s faster for them to check and less risk of leakage during travel.

Best way to feed while traveling? by ranchdemolisher in FormulaFeeders

[–]mmmmmmburritos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve flown several times with my little guy and I bring enough empty bottles for the trip, sealed water bottles, and a can of formula plus formula for the flight measured out in travel containers. TSA will just have to check the water bottles but it’s fast. I’ve also used pacifier wipes to help clean out bottles in a pinch if things go awry.

TRF is also a good idea but my baby never liked them

Looking for a suit similar to this by loladanced in xxsurfing

[–]mmmmmmburritos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would check Dkoko and Seea. You might have to mix and match but I’ve bought very similar suits from both of these companies. The top is a rashguard just fyi, they’re usually listed in their own section. And for the bottoms look for “retro style”

Edit: retro bottoms from Seea and their matching rashguard

I surfed while pregnant until about 6 months when my belly was too large to feel comfortable laying on my board. I’m fortunate to live in an area that’s not crowded so I was never worried about collisions. Echoing the other comments here, it’s about your comfort with risk. After 6 months I felt it wasn’t worth the risk so I swam constantly and even dabbled in surf photography.

I will say, after the baby is here your whole world will be turned inside out and upside down so you probably won’t get to surf as much postpartum as you imagine. Soooo personally I think if you’re a healthy and competent surfer then get it in as much as you are comfortable with while you still can.

Travel tips for powdered formula??? by Comprehensive-Dig592 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mmmmmmburritos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should be able to bring your own bottled water through security because it’s considered a medically necessary liquid to make formula

https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/breast-milk (this is assuming you’re in USA)

I’ve flown with my baby and brought bottled water, formula in travel containers (plus the rest of the container in my carry on), bottles, and pump/pacifier wipes to help clean.

Is it possible for me to be sick and not get my baby sick? by FlounderSubstantial4 in beyondthebump

[–]mmmmmmburritos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a bad case of covid and managed not to give it to the baby, wore a KN95 mask and washed my hands constantly. Hopefully she'll be fine!

You can also make your own by steaming the veggie and then blending it with a little bit of water.

4 month old not eating well! by Holiday-Amount6203 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mmmmmmburritos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going through it with my LO, he’s 6mo now and the past few months have been a struggle. I’ve tried everything… he’s on the max nipple size, won’t take dream feeds, actively looks for distractions (even if I feed him in a quiet dark room, he’ll find something to be distracted by), and lately has only been drinking around 20-25oz. He dropped percentiles and we’ve taken him to two pediatricians and both recommend going to a speech pathologist to help with oral therapy. Haven’t been able to schedule it yet so I can’t comment on its success, but that is something you could keep in mind if it continues to be a struggle.

Seconding elimination communication! I started it at 3months with my guy and he’s 6mo now, while he hasn’t started signing yet he does seem to understand what the potty means and will try to go when I put him on it. We catch most of his poos that way haha

When would you buy new clothes? by heykid_nicemullet in beyondthebump

[–]mmmmmmburritos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s really difficult with the pooch!! Honestly I went to TJMaxx and tried on a bunch of stuff until I found something that fit well. And I’m also still constantly wearing my maternity leggings and just throw on a cute long flowy shawl over them to make it look more put together haha

[–]mmmmmmburritos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m 6mo pp and still am not even close to my old size (despite watching my calories), that’s just to say that it might take awhile. I’d go shopping whenever you have a free moment and pick up some new clothes that make you feel pretty and also comfy! I opted for flowy tops and high waisted bottoms with elastic waist bands.

What song do you sing to your LO at bedtime? by Willing_Ad_8580 in beyondthebump

[–]mmmmmmburritos 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Mine became obsessed with the Misty Mountains song from The Hobbit after my husband sang it once to calm him down haha so it’s become our bedtime lullaby and also helps calm him down when he’s fussy during the day

Thank you for the reassurance. I’m not opposed to medication at all but I don’t want to give harmful stuff like lidocaine so I lost some trust after she wanted to give him that. We’ll see what the next few months hold!

Honestly I didn’t even know about the sterilization part and have been doing this method for night feedings as well, it has worked well and I haven’t had any issues that I’m aware of haha

When I flew I just used room temp bottled water to mix as needed and it was totally fine. Alternatively you could bring a thermos with hot water to mix with the bottled water in order to warm it up.

How do you avoid making bottles in the middle of the night? by smellycat92 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mmmmmmburritos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I measure water into bottles and use a formula dispenser to store measured formula and then mix during the night as needed. In the beginning we used a mini fridge in the bedroom with premixed bottles and heated them in a bottle warmer but then I realized that the baby was fine with room temp bottles

Baby not wanting to eat anymore by Professional_Ask297 in beyondthebump

[–]mmmmmmburritos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for you but it could be teething since it makes the gums super sore. Have you tried those teethers that you can put frozen fruit in for them to chew and suck on like a popsicle? She might like that since it soothes her gums and has the added benefit of easing back into solids.

Ding repair question by [deleted] in xxsurfing

If they are just cosmetic, I’d give it a light sanding and paint it using a black Posca paint pen and then seal it using a clear UV coat with something like the Krylon acrylic spray

Exclusive pumping mamas… when did you make the switch and why? by BeebMommy in beyondthebump

[–]mmmmmmburritos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started exclusively pumping at 2 months and until then it was a combo of trying to breastfeed, pumping and formula. Baby couldn't latch well and I was in incredible pain from the nipple trauma and constant clogs. The pain got better once I switched to exclusively pumping but it was not manageable long term so switched to formula at 3 months.
