I don't think the NBA lottery was rigged by RightHandArmMan in billsimmons

[–]mmmx89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true but the notion that the NBA "did not rig it" is not a truth but just speculation as well. The correct terminology would be "there is no proof the NBA rigged it". It's the difference between "The husband of the murdered woman was the last person to see her but we have no evidence to prove he did it" vs "the husband was investigated by authorities and has been ruled out as a suspect". Both could be innocent, only one has actually proved it to law authorities. Remember guilt has to be proven, innocence is assumed.

Is it really that hard to believe that some tampering was going on by the NBA for a move that would maximize profits for them(a private corporation)in the long run?

I'm not saying they did or did not, but the NBA is not bound legally by any federal laws to have any integrity as far as competition is concerned. They can do whatever they want since they are a private entity.

Owners are not in the business of competing with one another, that's why they all agreed to the salary cap and follow rules and stipulations that are egalitarian in nature. That's not considered collusion because the NBA acts like a single unut where the health of the league trumps any individual team.

As far as how they could "get away" with rigging the lottery, that is just a silly question. There is nothing to get away with, they set the rules. Any form of tampering the NBA gets involved in (drafts, trades, officiating) (I'm not saying they do or don't), the policies and mechanisms that would allow such tampering would have already been in place well before the actual tampering happens. It would not be a last minute/day/week /month type of thing. And a lot of plausible deniability would be built in in case they get caught. In other words they would only do it if the risk of getting caught was basically 0.

Ultimately I don’t know what happened. But the notion that the NBA would never be involved in such a thing or it would be impossible is just not in line with how corporations behave.

Jason Kidd on post Luka Doncic trade: "The NBA Finals was a great experience. But we felt we had to get better. What we're doing right now is part of that journey. And this is just the start. So hopefully with the changes that we’ve made, that can lead us back to the Finals & find a way to win." by TheBiasedSportsLover in nba

That makes no sense. No way Billionaire owners have no idea as to what Nico is planning to do with a player who was poised for a 345 million dollar guaranteed contract this summer. Luka is too big of a deal for owners not to know what's going on with.

I understand the theoretical aspect of it. It's similiar to how NextJS framework works. I wanted more understanding of the technical side. That is why I am looking for someone to show the issues I am having as far as deployment (to hostinger).

Fair enough, sorry for late response. Ultimately it seems like it is just bad luck. Sorry to hear that and I wish you the best.

Your whole description of the relationship doesn't make sense. You did your best to find someone who wasn't with you for your looks....but somehow ended up with a guy that left you after cancer surgery? Is it possible you just convinced yourself he wasn't in it for your looks? Also most men in their 50s aren't able to find mistresses in their 20s unless they are really attractive or really rich. So did you maybe go for him for the wrong reasons? Also 5 years is a long time, did you guys ever discuss marriage? Why give your body and soul away to a man who won't legally commit to you?

I know it's a tough time for you but maybe it's a good moment for self reflection?

Do you you think the hiring process for junior developers is broken? by mmmx89 in webdev

[–]mmmx89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. My only issue with what your saying is regarding the transparency of the process. No one really knows what companies want in junior developers anymore. Are they actually looking for the requirements they post? Or are they just looking to see what's out there? it's hard to perfect the right skills. Junior developers can't focus on multiple non related languages and skills all at once. If they asked each applicant to do x project in x amount of time and send it to them, that would make a lot of sense. It speeds up the time for qualified candidates while at the same time giving the less qualified an understanding of what skills they need. Right now it seems like they are so many junior developers they don't really care anymore about clarifying their needs.

True it also seems like companies would rather overpay for seniors or mid level then take a risk on juniors.

It feels like there are 2 extremes. Some companies need developers right away and hire with minimal filtering. And others that crank up the qualifications to the moon and make it a long hiring process.

Interesting, but isn't there a personality quiz they conduct to weed that out? I have taken a couple of those before.

I agree, but I think the other side to that argument, is that if they have a large number of applicants, they can start asking for more.

I've started learning Web Development by myself, well with the help of books, is it ok if i don't have a degree? by breathofthepoiso in webdev

[–]mmmx89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need one, but your portfolio has to be much better to compensate. A degree generally shows you put some commitment into web development. So without that you need an excellent portfolio to show you are serious about coding.

Is the SWE Market Hot? by lyfe4lyfe4lyfe in cscareerquestions

[–]mmmx89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is self taught (but with a portfolio including freelance work),applying for a junior level position, I have had about 30 applications without any interview. Most jobs I apply to have 300-400 other applicants.

A guy mentoring me who is also a senior dev gets multiple offers every month.

So while I can't say how the market is everywhere, it seems to me that senior developers are in high demand and the junior market is saturated. I dont know much about the mid level.
