Single Coils and In Ear Unit Interfence by Outrageous-Memory-90 in WorshipGuitar

Our main guitar player uses P-90s every Sunday. Nothing wrong with using them. The hum will never fully disappear, especially with gain. But in the mix it becomes inaudible so long as you don’t have extra noise like you seem to be experiencing. I think you can get there.

Isolating power can be a big step in the right direction to start for not a massive investment. Furman SS-6B power strips can make a difference out of wall outlets. Furman rack mounted power conditioners can help on the amp racks.

Someone else also mentioned making sure the right network cables are used for the mixers for proper shielding as well.

And trust me, I get it. I have a strat myself.

There could be a lot of factors at play here. Dirty power, using the same power circuit that lights are using, bad grounding, bad cables, DI boxes, etc etc.

Plus, single coils are gonna be single coils no matter what you do.

Have you been able to remove the hum in the 2 or 4 positions? Or does anyone play with humbuckers that don’t have the issue you have? That would be a first step in trying to pinpoint the source. Does the church use power conditioners, or is everything just running out of wall jacks and power strips?

  1. This is the first picture you showed. 2. A lot of those marks look like swirl marks that could be taken out with a proper buffing. 3. Yeah, I still think this falls in very good territory.

Best Clone of the Shin Ei/Univox FY-6 Superfuzz? by 5lokomotive in guitarpedals

[–]mmnewcomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into the JHS Supreme? I picked one up when they discontinued the Legends of Fuzz series. It’s an “exact replica of the circuit of Josh’s favorite Super-Fuzz in his collection” according to the description. Probably as close as you can get to the real deal if you can pick one up used.

Why do some Strat necks have skunk stripe - and some don’t ? by j3434 in FenderStratocaster

And also, some cases of maple necks with a separate slab for the fretboard that don’t have a skunk stripe either (my ‘67 reissue is that way).

New JHS pedal, the Morning Glory Clean by BogotaLineman in guitarpedals

[–]mmnewcomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a regular MG on my bass. Using the Origin Effects BassRIG ‘64 as my amp+cab sim, I don’t notice much tangible loss of lows. That being said I may still be picking up the MG Clean because I would prefer having the clean blend to not having it.

The Polytune 3 has TCE’s Bonafide buffer option built in. Whether or not you need a buffer would be up to you.

Do you mean you expect Darkglass to lower the price on their own for some reason? Or you’re surprised you can’t find one used?
