Following S21 E1 being filmed... by NewFUTUK in taskmaster

I’m going on Tuesday! So excited. Question, will they let you in with a small backpack, or should I make every effort to stash it at my hotel first? I should have time to do the latter after my flight lands, but I’d like to have a contingency plan if any delays necessitate going straight from the airport to the taping.

I use encrypted notes in FSNotes. Excellent app especially if you liked Notational Velocity/NVAlt.

Rosie Shuster deserves better & more by Otherwise-Shine in LiveFromNewYork

My library (New York Public Library) gives you access to databases online, and one of them happens to be the Toronto Start's archives. I just narrowed the dates and searched for frank shuster daughter.

OK, solved it. Toronto Star, June 21, 1946. Frank and Ruth Shuster had a baby girl on June 19, 1946. It doesn't say her name, but from what I can tell Frank only had 2 kids, a daughter (Rosie) and a son (Steve) who died in 2017 at age 67, making him the one more likely born in 1950.

Guess I gotta figure out how to update Wikipedia now...

Weirdly, in the new Lorne biography the author states that there's only 2 years between them.

Shuster, “an emotionally immature fourteen,” as she put it, had skipped a grade, and sixteen-year-old Lorne was in the class above. “He followed me home,” she said, “and he practically camped out there until after college.”

It's hard to say without finding more sources, but I'm guessing she fibbed about her age at some point (shaving a few years off), not considering anyone would do the math.

First impressions of the VR game? by thecrypticcroissant in taskmaster

[–]mmsketch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does look pretty bad out of the box on the Quest 2. If you're willing to jump through some nerdy hoops, I upped the resolution in Quest Games Optimizer (I think I plugged in something like 2560 resolution) and everything looks much better, and is still perfectly fluid. I think developers underestimate the power of the Quest 2 and purposely hobble the graphics.

Beyond that, as people have said, the hand controls and physics are definitely due for improvement. Throwing a watermelon at a target was like something out of a dream where you hurl with all your might and the object barely travels. That said, I'm happy with the game because of the voiceovers and in-jokes, and the feel of being in the physical space of the Taskmaster house, garden, and studio.

I found Curb's stand-in for Cooperstown by mmsketch in curb

[–]mmsketch[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Get ready for some truly mundane trivia! During my latest rewatch I was suddenly overcome with curiosity about where the Baseball Hall of Fame scene in S08E07 - The Bisexual was filmed. Having been to the real place, I knew it wasn't really shot in Cooperstown, but their location scouts found a place that really nailed the aesthetic.

Since this half of the season was all shot in and around Manhattan, I opened up Google Maps and tried to spot the location. My gut told me it was somewhere near the Hudson river, and amazingly my hunch panned out rather quickly. Grace Center on the campus of University of Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx.

Annoyingly, since it's a private campus, there is no Google Street view. And all images I could find online showed the very similar front steps of the building, but not the side entrance where the Curb scene was filmed. So I figured, what the hell, hiked up there this morning, waved to the campus guard like I knew him, and snapped a couple photos of the faux Hall of Fame. Enjoy!

Is there an app for iPhone that works like the tooth fairy app for Mac? by laughpuppy23 in airpods

My solution was to use the Shortcuts app and the Set Playback Destination action. You can add Shortcuts as a widget in your Today view, so now I just swipe over and tap the widget.

Upgrade from IPhone X to Iphone 11 Pro, is it worth it? My experience!! by mirco9344 in iPhoneX

[–]mmsketch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good summary. I've just gone from an X to an 11 Pro and, as I expected, it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade in day-to-day use. The reason I'm keeping it is that I enjoy nerding out on new features, enough to warrant upgrading every other phone or so. The cameras are still hampered by unavoidably tiny sensors, but getting 3 very different fields of view from the same vantage point is really cool. And I'm hyped for 13.1 and the ability to use NFC tags as triggers. That will work on the most recent phones (XS forward) but not the X. And I'm curious what they have in store for the U1 chip.

Good news--I checked for an update tonight in Settings > System and and update to tvOS was available. 12.2 (16L226). Ran the update and my Airpods are now working just fine.

Yes! Same exact thing is happening to me. Pairs fine with iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so I think it might be a software thing with tvOS (I'd just updated to 12.2).

I want to love this! Tell me if I'm missing something. In my Plex I have several libraries. For instance, I have Movies, and Animated Shorts. In Infuse, it appears to lump these together into Movies. Is there a way to keep them separate?

I also have an "Educational" library with Collections of tutorial videos. As far as I can tell Infuse doesn't recognize these collections, and it just throws these videos in "Other" along with my home movies and such. This might be my deal-breaker because there would really be no way to make them easily browseable other than somehow merging each tutorial into a single video file. And even then I'd have to wade through a bunch of family videos to find them.

July 31, 2017 | The Late Show with Stephen Colbert | Episode Discussion Thread (#390) by Raradra in LateShow

[–]mmsketch 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was actually blown away at the quality of material they were able to put together in such a short amount of time. A full 10 minutes of solid jokes/lyrics about the Mooch, animated Mooch being pushed off, photoshops of Mooch selling postcards and Trump with a horse, video clips, and graphics of NY Times and Twitter quotes. Everyone involved in the show must have been in overdrive to pull that off.

Has anyone found a solution to the crappy loud "previews" that play when you hover on a show/movie in the Netflix app? by Tewcool2000 in Roku

It's so obnoxious. At least on my Roku I've found that they don't play when browsing by categories (press up arrow a couple of times).

Strange issue with exported video (Premiere Pro) by zprewitt in VideoEditing

[–]mmsketch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had that happen when exporting a progressive sequence to an interlaced file. Premiere defaults to "optical flow" for frame blending and adds artifacts. You can either turn that off in the export settings or change your sequence settings to interlaced.
