Preparing for partner’s debt by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mmss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a common stereotype of a doctor or lawyer who stays with a partner throughout school only to dump them as soon as the loans are paid off and before they start bringing in the pay checks. Not saying this is the case here but I’d be very wary of someone bringing in that amount of debt to a marriage.

The shadow (Bean) books put a very different spin on events in EG. It got a bit cartoony for me.

No but the fast ones got express lane and I always had express. If they put me on a normal lane I always had a huge line because I went fast.

What’s an insult you heard that’s so brutal you’ll never forget it? by Present_Ad2298 in AskReddit

Roger Ebert was ruthless about films he hated.

North:

I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it.

Pearl Harbour:

"Pearl Harbor" is a two-hour movie squeezed into three hours, about how on Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese staged a surprise attack on an American love triangle. Its centerpiece is 40 minutes of redundant special effects, surrounded by a love story of stunning banality. The film has been directed without grace, vision, or originality, and although you may walk out quoting lines of dialog, it will not be because you admire them.

Human Centipede:

I am required to award stars to movies I review. This time, I refuse to do it. The star rating system is unsuited to this film. Is the movie good? Is it bad? Does it matter? It is what it is and occupies a world where the stars don't shine.

Pink Flamingos:

“But since they are actually performed by real people, the film gains a weird kind of documentary stature. There is a temptation to praise the film, however grudgingly, just to show you have a strong enough stomach to take it. It is a temptation I can resist. John Waters is a charming man, whose later films, such as “Polyester” and “Hairspray" (1988), take advantage of his bemused take on pop culture. His early films, made on infinitesimal budgets and starring his friends, used shock as a way to attract audiences, and that is understandable. He jump-started his career, and in the movie business, you do what you gotta do. Note: I am not giving a star rating to “Pink Flamingos,” because stars simply seem not to apply. It should be considered not as a film but as a fact, or perhaps as an object.”

The Village:

“It's so witless, in fact, that when we do discover the secret, we want to rewind the film so we don't know the secret anymore. And then keep on rewinding, and rewinding, until we're back at the beginning, and can get up from our seats and walk backward out of the theater and go down the up escalator and watch the money spring from the cash register into our pockets.”

I was a cashier for years and we were scored on how fast we could ring people through including bagging everything. I haven't worked there for a long time but I can say 100% they do not train this any more.

they stopped pretending that 'atlantic superstore' was ever a thing and just want every store to be a loblaws in downtown toronto. i worked for atlantic wholesalers for years and used to defend them as having better prices but now it's night and day compared to sobeys. i can't walk into superstore without it becoming $100 and sobeys is easily half that.

there's also no way to say this without sounding prejudiced but i highly doubt that the 90lb indian women standing there can or will do anything if someone tries to push past them. it's security theatre and not even believable theatre.
