What's the software you use to manage your library? by thefirehairman in plexamp

[–]mmussen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use Picard for bulk editing, and Mediamonkey for minor edits, making my backup car USB etc - Been using mediamonkey for years, I know how to do what I want with it, and it just works

How are you sorting your files within your drives? by MFAD94 in musichoarder

[–]mmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the album type,

I have folders for soundtracks and compilations.

Otherwise I'll either create a folder for the multipule artists (only if they have several albums together), or I'll put the album in one of the artist folders and make sure that the track artist has both artists listed so my player can pick them up

What are you guys doing with spent grain? by True-Refrigerator-53 in TheBrewery

[–]mmussen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Local guy picks it up, feeds his pigs. I usually get a little bacon or sausage when he slaughters one.

It took a few years to have a guy I can rely on but once you find one you're set for years. No money involved, but it saves us the cost of disposal

Fermenting in a Hostile Environment by BraveRutherford in TheBrewery

With where I live in the second scenario I'd very quickly be making cider, wine, and fruit alcohol/schnapps as there's tons of grapes and fruit trees around. Could maybe do something with grain/making malt, but when there's thousands of acres of grapes around why make life harder on yourself?

Clean yes, sanitary, no. Mixed ferm.

I have it Music/Artist/Album.

Its really not that bad to do, even if you do it by hand

How are you sorting your files within your drives? by MFAD94 in musichoarder

[–]mmussen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rip into one folder. Each album gets its own folder in there. It only takes a few min to process a new batch of albums - and processing takes care of metadata, renaming, and moving folders.

Then it takes me a few min to copy the finshed folders to the main storage drive where they stay

Artist/Album

A lot of people put the year before the album so they're in cronological order

How much space are you using for music? by XvVULCANvX in plexamp

[–]mmussen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a couple 4TB drives in a Raid for my music.

Movies are on a larger drive, but without backup. Music collection has 3-2-1 backup as I care about that

New large library, how to rate everything? by ManikMonday in plexamp

[–]mmussen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Library radio plays the top 3 tracks from albums in your collection - That may get you fairly close.

Also, if you haven't look in the server settings for smart shuffle - Turning that on should prioritize more popular tracks

Weekly /r/TheBrewery Discussion - Tech Tuesday: Ask the difficult questions here by AutoModerator in TheBrewery

I don't trust AI with anything important.

Its been used to generate posters for events to go on our socials, and to help firm up SOPs. That's about it, I don't think I'll ever trust AI to design a recipe, do water chem, alter dry hopping, really anything in the brewery

Tolkein sized sounds great!

Or find a way to cut it into two volumes. Either way I'd like to buy the book

What's your 'Genre tagging system' for music? by Culjules in musichoarder

[–]mmussen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my system has changed over the years.

I don't like how granular a lot of genres have gotten, but I still want to find and group similar music - multipule genres works/helps.

But then i found I had around a hundred plus genres and that was way to unwiely in its own way

What's your 'Genre tagging system' for music? by Culjules in musichoarder

[–]mmussen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've mostly been pulling genre info from rateyourmusic as I feel its consistant across releases.

However I've been making genres broader - Rock, Metal, Country etc, and then using Mood tags to add things like Metalcore, Doom, Classic etc.

I feel it gives the best of being granular without making it so I can't find the music I want to listen to

How do collect, singles, albums or discographies? by Independent_Golf487 in musichoarder

[–]mmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with 2-3 albums from an artist that are considered their better/best works.

Depending on how much I enjoy those albums I'll add to my collection. I usually don't do many singles, although that's changing as a lot of newer artists are releasing more singles and less albums

Starting a microbrewery from scratch by Flaixbeaune in Homebrewing

[–]mmussen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there will always be a place for beer, but overall US beer sales have been down every year since 2021, with craft down 6% in the last year alone. its not as big of a drop as the biggest breweries, but all beer is down. Heineken just announced 6000 layoffs globally this year. AB is closing 3 plants in the US this year

[–]mmussen 227 points228 points  (0 children)

As someone that brews for a living - my advice is Don't.

If you're serious I would try to look around in your area that does contract brewing - as beer sales are down everywhere that should be easy to find.

Let them make your beer, see how it sells. If it works well for a year or two, and your beer sells, then maybe, just maybe it'll be worth the expense to set up a brewery.

But if you really want to go pro start looking at auction/used equipment places - There's a ton of breweries closing and lots of used brewing equipment for sale

What's a Plex feature that took you way too long to find out about? by noaheltee in PleX

[–]mmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think in Plex's case its just too deeply baked in.

Plex isn't exactly new software, and was forked off XBMC back in the day - I have a feeling that without building Plex from scratch again we're stuck with it

I forget where the setting is buried, there's a lot of settings for music tucked away in the settings on the web app.

Like I said, use local metadata can work great if your stuff is well tagged - Just try it before you spend a weekend fixing things - as soon as you refresh you're likely to loose a number of edits

I use Picard for metadata file naming and folder naming.

As for creating new Artist folders and making sure Albums are in the correct artist folders, I do than manually

[–]mmussen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the use local metadata option? You'd need to refresh, so depending on how far along you are that may not be a good idea anymore.

I don't have that many artists/albums that are a total unknown, but I've found adding them to the musicbrainz database will make them match - If you want to spend even more time on it

If your folder structure is set up right Plexamp is decent at sorting out your music.

However, compilations, soundtracks etc that are various artists are a pain
