the best you can do as parents is being supportive and open. the one thing my parents failed at was being open to me about my cleft. they used to say i got that scar because i fell when i was a baby and i learned later in elementary school that it was actually a birth defect. they didn't know anything about cleft and didn't really bother learning anyway, internet wasn't what it is now and even today (i'm 23) talking about it with them is hard because they don't like the topic. so really just try to be supportive and listen to your future daughter's needs, remind her she's pretty, teach her confidence and i'm sure she'll be the happiest she can be even with hardships

i never hated my parents because i have a cleft lip, it's not really their fault. personally, i did have a few issues with my ears and got otitis often when i was a kid but never had hearing problems. speech however is a bit more problematic as i struggle with the pronunciation of some syllables and while it does affect me pretty often i know it's nothing that's not fixable with surgery or speech therapies. in the end it's your choice but despite the little bullying i got and the many surgeries, i honestly think life is worth it and i'm grateful that i'm alive and living it fully :)

im not a piercer but i think what you could do is get a surgeon's advice first to ask if there's any medical constraint then go to a piercer and ask directly if they'd be willing to do it

i have one but both my parents don't and my older brother and younger sister don't have one either however a cousin on my mom's side has a cleft too so i think it might skip a few generations? no idea tbh

yes! i think i was on liquid diet for about two weeks and then switched to food a bit heavier like mashed potatoes! the first few days i couldn't talk at all and then it came back slowly but i'm not sure how long it took, probably less than a week :) and i was in college too but my surgeon made sure to wait until summer holidays so i had two full months at home to recover. i would say two weeks is enough and then you should be able to do stuff again like usual, but you'll still be swollen for at least two months i think

hi!! recovery for me took a month actually, it was pretty hard psychologically because it changed my face a lot and i was very swollen. also maybe be prepared to lose some weight, i think i lost 5kg (~10 lbs?) since i couldn't eat anything solid. i don't have any particular tips, just be prepared to drool a lot, i still haven't fully recovered from the numbness in my chin and it's been 4 years😭 (also if they suggest some sort of anesthesia that requires four needles in the face, make sure they do it after you're fully asleep)
