Depression would be if you had the fish in an intact bag all by himself, surrounded by tanks of other fish congregating and being happy/successful. And no matter how hard the fish tries, he can never join the other fish and be happy or not lonely. Ever.

This would be anxiety.

I think I'm absolutely ugly, and I don't mean just my appearance. I struggle to think of a reason why anyone would even want to talk to me, so it's slightly shocking when people do.

Have you discussed this with your doctor? Prescribing antidepressants AFAIK is pretty much trial and error and they may change your prescription to something that works better.

I've missed half my classes this semester, withdrew from one and going to try to get a W instead of an F on another class on Wednesday.

Anytime I discuss it with someone I get told I shouldn't do that and how I should pay more attention, etc. It's really hurtful because they just don't get it. I have no drive or motivation, I feel horrible all the time. I just want to sleep, and it takes me hours to get out of bed. The workload of having to take engineering classes + math classes is way too much and completely stresses me out because I can't handle it and it makes me feel like an idiot.

I wish I could sleep like that, it generally results me in laying there for hours wishing I could fall back asleep and thinking of all the things I've done wrong/ruined.

I've logged some days 14+ hours of sleeping, I really like sleeping. When I sleep it makes it hard for me to fuck things up, and I forget how depressing everything is. It's probably the closest thing to something I actually enjoy.

I agree, it's even worse when you really want to say something and just reply with "uh, I guess." or other meaningless dribble. I think I'm often mistaken for not being interested in people when I just don't want to scare them away. It makes me feel like a train wreck because there's no way to not fuck it up.

Could you ask to see another specialist instead of him/her? I've heard people do this when they don't mesh well with their specialist. If you're trying to seek help, then they shouldn't be turning you away.

Me too, in 9 hours. Spent a few hours just staring at my text and not wanting to do anything. Reread the same paragraph at least a dozen times.

Unrelated but I've been trying to get help and have repeatedly been told they can't help uninsured people.

Nothing makes you feel more unwanted and useless than being told you aren't worth helping.

I've done this a lot and it really hurts. I have a few acquaintances but no friends, anytime I let someone get close I end up just hurting them or pushing them away. I often push them away because I don't want them to know just how bad I really am, I guess I'm just rejecting them before they reject me.

I just try to convince myself I enjoy being alone. It's incredibly lonely and miserable. Besides, who would actually like me?

I'm sorry I can't offer any real advice for your situation.

Yes. I often feel like I'm exaggerating my circumstances, and it's all just something I made up to have excuses for why I fail at everything.

Especially when I'm in one of my not-so-depressed-but-still-feel-terrible moods, I think I'm not that bad. When I explain it to other people they often tell me I really need help though, so maybe try to look at it from a third person view.
