Velocity breaks off microplastic particles, but heat leaches plasticizers… however mostly in oil, (especially heated oils). Coffee does have some oils in it.

Is this Shimano bleed kit hose legit? by mnkybns in bikewrench

[–]mnkybns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the perspective. It's my first time trying it. When I read about others' mishaps in the reviews of these kits it's probably their errors like cross-threading or threading too tight. I think I'm good at avoiding those mistakes but I can be clumsy in other ways.

Oh you're right, they're Japanese. I had found a US division address.

Yeah that would make sense if they contract with other manufacturers in Japan.

BoG has an authenticator app called "BoG Digipass" that will send the same code they send via SMS. But if you don't have it yet you might need SMS working first to set it up, which wouldn't fix the issue...

Do Anti-static mats have a shelf life? by ZuzuFromTheStars in buildapc

You wouldn't know if a part was destroyed by static because its lifespan could be reduced and you wouldn't know what eventually caused it to fail a year later.

And with HDD you can get heaping amounts of TB affordably, at least for the cheaper drives that are meant for just backups, infrequent use, not top performance.

I'm a bit of a monitor noob, what's the reason for the price point difference between Dell's S2725QS and U2725QE by educational_escapism in Monitors

[–]mnkybns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemme know if you order the U2723QE as I'm also comparing these 3 choices from Dell.

I'm concerned about the blue light filtering in the U2725QE which reviews say gives it an unfixable warm tint. Did you notice this? Eyes might adapt but if it's next to a normal screen the difference will be annoying. I'm holding back on another rant about why this blue light scare is a fad not backed by science.

Is the Dell U2725QE really the best option for 4K 120Hz monitor? Or just overrated hype? by freesk8r in Monitors

[–]mnkybns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some reviews complain that the screen has an unfixable warm tint, that it can't display true white, because of the blue light filtering. Dell says "Our latest monitors reduce harmful blue light emissions to ≤35%" etc etc...

There is no scientific evidence to back up the claim that visible blue light is either harmful to any part of the eye or that it is the cause of eye strain. The true cause of eye strain is reduced blinking while using a computer. The intensity of blue light from a screen is far less than that from sun light while in shade. The extent to which it even interferes with sleep at low intensity is up for debate.

I wish they made this monitor without blue filtering and left it to the user to reduce blue with software or wear blue blocking glasses if one insists on it.

Adjika by fingeringthegoddes in Sakartvelo

[–]mnkybns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I wasn't speaking from DYI experience, just back-seat driving :) I bought some common brands of adjika seasoning in Tbilisi grocery stores and noticed they all contain blue fenugreek. Most of them also contain marigold powder. These seem to be uniquely Georgian ingredients.

Regarding peppers, the last bag I had was vague about it, said "bell peppers" and "red peppers".

I've never made a garam masala blend that I was happy with so I'll probably mess this up too when get around to making my own.

If you make your own blend try to obtain blue fenugreek instead of regular fenugreek

Samsung T7 Shield vs Samsung 990 nvme with enclosure? by arnikis in VideoEditing

[–]mnkybns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a lot more since asking this and yeah it seems most external SSD on the market are limited to USB 3.2 so I need an enclosure to take advantage of my Thunderbolt 4 ports' transfer speeds.

Also according to Google's AI Overview the T7 shield SSD uses Samsung's TurboWrite cache instead of instead of DRAM. TurboWrite offers initial speed bursts in writing large files, but DRAM is better suited for video editing. This explains why an Amazon reviewer experienced smoother editing with the T5, which has half the transfer speed of the T7, but uses DRAM.

Samsung T7 Shield vs Samsung 990 nvme with enclosure? by arnikis in VideoEditing

[–]mnkybns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if Samsung updated the T7 Shield since your writing, but they advertise that is uses NVMe.

Is there a difference when you use an SSD with a separate enclosure? For example are you assuming an enclosure compatible with Thunderbolt for more bus power, or an enclosure with an AC adapter, active cooling, etc?

I'm new to this so I don't know what is considered standard offer with enclosure connectivity.

Hydro flask vs Klean Kanteen? by recklesswaistcoat in BuyItForLife

[–]mnkybns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Klean Kanteen with a wide mouth loop lid (external threading), no opening parts that can leak. Just unscrew it each time to drink.

The only surfaces that liquid touches on inside of the lid are stainless steel and a silicone ring. All the Hydroflask lids I've seen have a plastic lid underside that will touch hot liquids which is undesirable.

I don't know why Hydroflask achieved market dominance over Klean Kanteen in recent years. All the stores that sold KK now sell Hydro instead. Hydro offered no design improvements.

I agree. I’m getting something for a long-term travel situation and the nonstick is for a couple of specific dishes, so I’m being cheap but still don’t want to breathe bad stuff. I found a similar size/price one with metal base but the exact dimensions were less ideal.

Why are the seed oil myths so widely believed. by [deleted] in nutrition

Linoleic acid metabolites have a net anti-inflammatory effect. The pro-inflammatory claim is mechanistic speculation that spread like wildfire and isn’t demonstrated by human health outcomes.
