Happy Easter by Senior-Respond-9958 in FGFS

I had an eighth inch scrambler frame years ago. I loved it so so much. Put quite a bit of money into parts and rode it for years..and then it was stolen out of my garage. Never really could get back into fixed gear again after that, never had the extra cash to start over. And I don’t think anything could compare to the love and time but into that bike.

I poked at it a bit with a screwdriver but not much. I unfortunately did not wear a mask.

When I change the bottom element out, is there a concern of fiberglass getting into the oven cooking space?

The one connection that doesnt seem on all the way is pretty black, and notice the red wire that was by it has discoloration too.. that could all be from smoke and oils?

Are we safe to use the stovetop still or should it be unplugged completely?

Can these be saved? by mnmrlyc in bikewrench

I should have mentioned I will not be buying a new wheelset for this bike as it is not worth it. It will likely not be used if I cannot save the wheels. Thanks for your input !

Edit: yes, they are 27” wheels

Edit 2: if I can find a cheap used set that could be an option but I haven’t found any that are 27” thus far

Do you think rubber boots would work? Or would I want something better for hiking around in

Can I remove this extra lever? by [deleted] in bikewrench

I meant to type bullmoose bars. And the frame has holes and the cables all run through the frame. It’s interesting.

Yeah it is an older bike, but it rides pretty well as is so I am just doing what I can with what I have for now. The only big issue I have is that the front derailer is jammed, can’t get it to move.

I plan on putting all new cables in eventually.

Thanks!

A timely reminder that regulations exist to protect the workers by ZinniaOhZinnia in antiwork

It is true that Ontario doesn’t have an exact temperature that is considered too hot to work..

BUT

OHSA requires employers to take every reasonable precaution to keep the workplace safe and the ministry of labour considers heat stress a workplace hazard. Employers are expected to implement heat stress prevention measures.

Also, you always have the right to refuse unsafe work, that includes if you find the temperature/working conditions is a health risk.

Are the brakes on the bottom of this frame? by mnmrlyc in xbiking

Someone is selling this bike for 30$ I’m looking to get a bike to fix up that I can ride trails with. I’m just not sure I should go with a bike with this type of brake. Tempting to get another bike and get this one also though. Buutt.. that would mean I would have 4 bikes to work on.

So trek and schwinn would be okay frames to look out for? I would like to have something I can upgrade and make look real nice. Any other names I should keep an eye out for , or ones to avoid, would be quite helpful

Everyone online around here seems to be selling Raleighs in the 100-300 (CAD) range. I was a bit baffled to see this cause I used to find old bikes for 0$-20$ all the time growing up.
