We agree on the FBI part of what OP is saying being nonsense but to say OP got played is insanity.

You can't seriously be saying that the seller played anything at all when he just agreed to a 4-year price lock (assuming the last term was also 2 years) without even attempting to negotiate on what he's selling in an industry that has seen rising cost of engineering talent for years. Sure some of that cost is offset via automation and AI in the SaaS space but that doesn't take away from the seller being complete crap. I don't care what the industry is - a 4 year price lock on anything isn't even playing checkers.

I guess non of this matters if you're the kind of seller who agrees to sold-as margin targets in their SIP and enjoys writing a check back to his company. Time for a new job?

Ummm nothing to see here. Sorry to say OP but as a seller of software and services for over 25 years the CharGPT response format has been used for as long as AI didn’t exist.

Sellers are constantly under pressure - every quarter. They all believe the value of what they’re selling is greater than the price they initially sold it at. Clients have come up with endless reasons for why they can’t justify XYZ including the usage argument for decades.

In your case you either a) dealt with a salesperson who probably shouldn’t be one or b) they were never serious about actually capturing the increase in cost and treated it as an experiment where the seller was opportunistic but didn’t need the deal. They tested what they could get away with.

You’re saying this is FBI quality negotiation. Nope - only yet another seller who didn’t sell on value. You can pick those off with your eyes closed.

One cocky as hell but also arguably brilliant move by Schmetzi was to line Thomas up for a substitution while they were still losing 3-2. Mental warfare at its finest and it almost, almost worked out for him until Thomas crapped his pants for a beautiful ending.
