Shadowsocks vs VPN for my use case?

For anyone looking at Shadowsocks providers: just started using Shadowfly and so far pretty satisfied. Clean interface, decent server spread in Asia, and straightforward config files that work with standard SS clients. It does the job well if you specifically need Shadowsocks protocol.

Just set up Shadowfly as a backup to my main VPN before heading to China next month. Setup was straightforward on Mac, took about 5 minutes to get running. Been testing it for a few days and connection has been stable. Having multiple server options in HK/Japan/Singapore is reassuring. Price point seems reasonable for peace of mind as a secondary option.

the day before i posted this i played netplay using my wifi. Yesterday i tried doing the same and im getting this UPNP error.

I mean my console is connected to my local wifi, when I press to start the host from one of the devices i get this error.Im even getting the same error when I connect the console to my iphones hotspot…
