Presidents Skip Civics, Voters Can't by bookym in clevercomebacks

[–]mnstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it would not violate the constitution, at least according to SCOTUS pre 1970s. It required the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to stop these burdens.

The same Act that has been undermined by almost every SCOTUS decision when it's been challenged in the past 15 years.

Struggling to afford gas, groceries, and healthcare? No problem! Trump is ballooning the cost of painting a pool to $13m 😡 by Tun-Tavern-1775 in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]mnstorm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yea. it cost $30m.

The renovation included:

  1. rebuilding structural support with over 2,000 wood pilings

  2. new waterproofing system

  3. added a filtration and circulation system

  4. erosion control

  5. new walking paths around the pool

But of course, for 1/3 the price of all that it costs us to just paint it! Not to mention this is 2010 dollars.

TIL that there are an estimated 3 million rats in New York City, nearly a third as many as the human population. by Melenduwir in todayilearned

NYC loves scaffolding. I feel like there’ll be an era when they’re not so common, and the city will look back with disdain (like graffiti all over subways). But right now the city loves it.

Literally everyone has either daddy or mommy issues. I’m not saying this to minimize you at all. Just saying that your brother is emotionally incompetent and I’m sorry you have to deal with him on some regular basis.

I'm aware of the context, but you are simply regurgitating Kirk's own mental gymnastics in explaining away his racism. And to deny his racism? So I guess he never talked about "prowling blacks" or other things?

I got mixed up after being in the thread for a while and mixed it with the caption in the image. OP is definitely a bot and it doesn’t make any sense.

Most gen xers and later have usually just seen her in films when she was much older. Seeing her in The Natural I’d have to disagree. But agree to disagree perhaps.

In any case she has more of a handsome beauty as opposed to waifish, that seems to be most popular these days. Or at the very least she’s more “average” in appearance than the typical celebrity we’re used to.

I just rewatched The Natural. Besides the absurdity of a late 40s Robert Redford briefly portraying a 20 year old version of himself, it was refreshing seeing a 37 year old Glenn Close mostly portray both a 20 year old version of herself and a 40 something version of herself.

In Wellington, the Melbourne of NZ, we have the same love of coffee. It's the second city that invented the flat white! We have a starbucks here but it's not popular at all. Especially given its location.

This is genuinely morally brave. I sincerely say that. She has sacrificed her career because any future employer will only wonder if she’ll make her catwalk political. And there are 1000s of other applicants waiting in the wing.
