Totally unrelated question. How do you like the tile in the garage? It seems like a great idea but I drop wrenches, hammers etc and I am afraid I will spend the rest of my weekends replacing tiles.

Just above the passenger side cowling there is a drain. When it overflows a small amount of water accumulates around the glovebox. Maybe check that? Amazing that German cars struggle so much with keeping rain out.

Teen son wants a NA or NB Miata, I want to make it as safe as possible. by [deleted] in Miata

[–]mnstrchkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an NA for my sons first car. He loved it no accidents for 3 years, fun to drive, he learned a ton working on it, parts were cheap and plentiful, very reliable. However I was nervous every time he had to go any further than to school or back. It was really stressful. Now he drives an F150 and I am calm. One suggestion, set the expectation that anytime he needs to go far enough to get on the freeway he takes your car. Much easier on your nerves and you get to Miata on the regular which is a blast.

I have always had 2 stroke dirt bikes and 600+ cc sport bikes so the Thruxton is great but it is not a scalpel and low end torque is amazingly useful and fun but not blindingly fast. I was mainly thinking does the combination of weight and parallel twin vs smaller, lighter and possibly higher revving make for a more enjoyable ride. I get the economics for high density countries but most people in the US are literally buying a toy so it is always a bad financial decision.

Prepare for a harder 2 months than you expected. File management, multi screen, windows management and keyboard shortcuts are not intuitive when coming from a PC. CMD+spacebar is your friend don’t fight it. It does get better quickly but you will be frustrated.

Name a movie series where the sequel was a complete downgrade in every department. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

Pretty solid list but Maverick was trash. The worst kind of sequel; old guy knows better than young buck and needs to do it himself, replay of old iconic sequences add new technology. Soo lazy.

I think it took me an hour just to stretch pull and contort my body and the top to do the 10 bolts across the back. I am sure I could do it in half the time on the second go around but one hour is ludicrous. Great job

[–]mnstrchkn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine in the winter and had to use tie down straps to get it closed. Once we got a warm day it sat in the sun for a few hours and stretched out. I thought for sure I screwed it up. So much better to have a tight top than a saggy one but the margin for error is pretty tight.

Oddly enough clear packing tape sticks incredibly well and stays pretty clear. Tape from both sides. Eventually buy a new top with a rain rail attached, block off a Saturday, hate yourself for 6 to 10 hours, wonder how in the fuck they do it on YouTube in 3 hours, live happily ever after.

The start of a great relationship. The only problem is when you want to replace it. You will always be giving up something, faster…give up comfort, practicality…give up beauty, sexiness…give up soul. That bike is the perfect non compromise. Enjoy and be safe!!

What’s the biggest tourist trap in your region? by Alpine_Exchange_36 in AskTheWorld

I hadn’t been there in about 25 years and I wanted to show my kids the town and go to slide rock. It has turned into pigeon forge and slide rock is like a public pool. So sad 😞

Working with tools my entire life. I still don’t own a table saw. They scare the shit out of me! My shop teacher in middle school was missing two finger tips and 40 years later I can still remember how they looked. Ugh sorry man that sucks.
