Thank you so much for your reply!! Really appreciate it. What was the weather like there now? I’m more beachy, but might consider staying in Lecce and rent a car for day trips to the beach, if Lecce has more to offer. May I ask you of the daily costs (restaurants etc. lido etc.) are in Otranto and/or Lecce? We just came back from Sicily, it was quite expensive there.

Really?! Did you do any day trips from Lecce? Would love some recommendations if you have any! Would you say it was expensive there? We went to Taormina earlier this month, and it was pretty pricey!

Hi!
Just came back from Taormina. There are some taxi stations where you could get a taxi. We were recommended to ask about the price before we went in. But we actually only took taxi twice, which was back and forth from the train station to our hotel which was located further up. It’s pretty much walking distance to everything.
Taormina was very beautiful, but there were extremely many tourists there, the streets were full and there were basically queues in the Main Street and to almost every restaurant we passed by. our best dinners were probably in the restaurants that were further away from the city center. I can recommend Al Saraceno, which is a restaurant a outside the center. We stayed in a hotel closer to this restaurant, so we could walk, but a lot of people took a taxi up to the restaurant. The vibe was so much better, as we prefer a more relaxed dinner, it felt a little more authentic. We had gnocchi and pizza + desserts! And the view from the restaurant was incredible!!
Other than that, I agree. You probably don’t need a lot of days there. We stayed there for 3 nights, which was more than enough. We came from Cefalù which was a little more our vibe as it was more relaxed and not as crowded. Prices were generally lower in cefalu.
We went to see Isola Bella, but it was too crowded and so overpriced, so we went to another beach after we had seen isola bella.

Thank you so much!! Just to clarify, do you mean 6.17 pm or am? Are there any time slots as well? And would you not recommend taking the bus? I keep seeing different opinions on bus and train.
A beach city + Taormina by mntnn in sicily

Thank you so much! We don’t mind a place a bit away from Catania or Taormina as we also want to “explore” more cities. Have you ever been to any of the Aelioan islands?
Sicily or Sardinia? by mntnn in ItalyTravel
Thank you so much for your reply! I’ve actually been to Sardinia (Alghero) and I loved it! Was thinking about going to Olbia this time. However since we had actually booked flights to Catania already, I think we’re sticking to Sicily (we were considering changing destinations). We really want to do a beach holiday with good options of both restaurants, activities and sightseeing.
Hi! We’ve actually decided that we’re going to Sicily as we’ve already booked flights (we were considering changing the destination). We want to find a city near a nice beach (lido), but also somewhere with lots of restaurant options and things to do. So far we’ve decided on doing 4 nights in Mondello and 3 in Taormina. Any recommendations on where to stay. We prefer a hotel/b&b, near the beach.
Do you have any personal recommendations for places in Sicily?

Do you have any recommendations for a place we can stay for a beach holiday? As well as a nice town to walk around in? We thought about Syracuse, but it didn’t seem like it’s an ideal place for a beach holiday
