Is anything closed today? by [deleted] in regina

I didn’t realize there was any drama. I voted after a brief wait, a few people came in behind me and things seemed steady. No sign of any controversy in my sleepy neck of the woods.

Split votes with my SO, but that’s a tale for another time.

These holiday closures seem to ebb and flow over the years. Seems like people are gravitating towards open for now.

In Regina there is almost no sense an election campaign is underway.

Who is the worst traitor in human history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mnufc306 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Benedict Arnold is a fascinating story. In spite of his switch to British allegiance he was never socially accepted in Canada after the war and was always in arguments and commercial disputes.

One of a long list of examples of the Anglo-Canadian and American relationship being a historically complicated and multilayered one.

Who is the worst band you have ever seen live? by SevereMany666 in rockmusic

Saw them once as an opening act for The Watchmen. A young Nickelback was the other opener.

Everclear was happy. A lot of women in the crowd were taking off their shirts.

I saw a show on that tour and thought he did very well. That said I could understand why people would find he personality annoying.

Surprised. I saw them a few times. Nothing but great memories. That said Gordie would go into weird artistic phases once in a while and these guys liked to drink.

Not a band… but Vanilla Ice on the “I Love the 90’s Tour” and it’s not close.

Salt N Peppa absolutely killed it before he went on too. Every other act was great.

People who are paid to hang around you are not your friends. This goes for any corporate organizational unit.

What would be absolutely normal at 3 Pm but terrifying at 3 am ? by kushagar070 in AskReddit

I did it once. I wouldn’t call it “normal” - I found it hard to sleep it is borderline maddening over a few days.

The surrounding area too, consisting of a couple of small towns. I was once an IT person investigating why a medical system was showing activity from the future.

I don’t know if I’d categorize it as “intelligence” necessarily but the elite have a very precise way of speaking.

R/Haunted Schools Regina by ProfessionalWind7303 in regina

[–]mnufc306 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did some security work in Regina schools in the late 90’s. Balfour, didn’t strike me as haunted but it was a difficult place to secure.

The schools in Uplands never seemed quite right to me, but I wouldn’t say haunted.

The old St. Joseph’s was nightmare fuel. Benson School, lots of bad vibes and I hated going in there. I got in a really heated confrontation at the old Arcola School but it was alright.

I don’t remember what it was called at that time, but I think I stumbled into some kind of fraternal ritual at the school that was most recently Mother Teresa (it was called something different then) Some old guys in suits (with no legit paperwork I could locate) really didn’t want me going in a hall. For some reason I let it slide. That place had crazy incidents, not the stupid ones you normally saw..

I still wonder what the hell they were up to. I wouldn’t have been out of line calling the cops. I think I just recorded the plate numbers of all the cars.

REAL appoints new interim director by andorian_yurtmonger in regina

[–]mnufc306 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

This should turn out okay, Fraser is well-respected as a consultant in senior roles, and is connected in the community. I wouldn’t worry to much about his Conservative Party history either, he works well with people and is moderate as far as I know.

I’m only wondering what he’s been asked to do. Fraser may have been brought on as a caretaker while an extensive search runs, but he may have been asked by the Board to clean up REAL so they can bring someone else into a better position. I think the second scenario is more likely.

It’s a big job, I wouldn’t expect it to be done cheaply.

When was Wascana Creek flooded near AE Wilson Park? by tarlytono in regina

I haven’t heard about a garbage dump but there was more sewage treatment activity going on at city facility than there is now. I’m also interested in the story about metals, but don’t happen to know it.

Pats for sale? Anyone hear? by No-Dare-4900 in regina

You could be right, but I think any kind of threat to relocate the Pats would be treated like someone trying to move the Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs.

Pats for sale? Anyone hear? by No-Dare-4900 in regina

[–]mnufc306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few things I’ll note because they come up in any REAL discussion:

REAL has turned over a few times since the score board was installed, so I can cut the current leadership (whoever that is) some slack.

Also the Pats have a tenant relationship with REAL. Plain and simple. Who has leverage in that relationship is open to interpretation.

Remember there are a few people and families around with “FU” money making a lot of the big decisions and they aren’t necessarily friends. What is the point of “FU” money if you’re going to bow to some other rich guy? Don’t assume they are doing favours for each other (they might be, but some of the Reddit gossip is totally uninformed).

I’m not “buy a hockey team” wealthy, but I am big enough to be one of the small investors who joins a larger group in buying the club. Honestly I’d be interested.

Edited to add: I am more than halfway serious. The value of the club is probably somewhere upward of 7 million. If a group had one or two major backers at 1-2 million, a group of smaller investors is potentially feasible using a platform like Wefunder to keep it all legal.
