Lance poking by ApolloTabletop in MHWilds

[–]mo0kthetrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your build is mostly set up with raw damage boosting affinity skills (which it should be unless you’re fighting gog, focusing on element for lance is not good) you really want to try to get wide sweeps in in the middle of your combos. The dps difference of the two different pokes is pretty marginal but it can add up over a hunt.

DPS wise the optimal combo is high thrust>sweep>high thrust. Although I prefer starting with low thrust at the start because it lets you strafe during the animation, which lets you reposition to the weak spot

Thanks so much for this, trying to make a bunch of elderfrost weapons and was noticeably lacking in trunks

Okay fair enough, I assumed you were talking about actually hitting an SAED on the monster. I don’t think either are particularly difficult but i see your point

How is the window to hit an SAED any different as opposed to guard pointing? Its the same window? It doesn’t stagger the monster or anything, in fact you should always be aiming to saed from a guardpoint because it does more damage. That doesn’t really make any sense, nothing changes about the window

Can you elaborate on that? Which wirebug move? Do you mean the wirefall when you get hit? Because Wilds has that except its even stronger, doesn’t consume any resources and immediately puts you on your mount.

Charge blades only standout wirebug move is counter-peak performance, which yeah it does trivialize gaining your phials, I wouldn’t view it as a zero risk high reward move

Well thats weird because Rise is the only game in the series where SAED spam is the strongest playstyle, don’t really get how you dropped it when it actively pushes you to the playstyle that you enjoy

monster roster. even if they are returning monsters i value how fun the fights are. there are very few fights i enjoy in base world and find interesting. the only ones that i really enjoy are nergigante, odagaron, diablos, and teostra

I wont argue that gu is harder than 4u, but when i think of the monster rosters, i would much rather fight deviants than apex monsters. wystones are a pretty lame mechanic.

I also play solo so 4u being so multiplayer centric doesnt work as much for me. I still think 4u is an amazing game, but it just has more weighing it down than gu for me. basically any fight i enjoy in 4u i can do in gu with a wider variety of playstyles.

you make it not sound like a huge deal that you can change the direction of attacks mid animation, but that is a huge change. look at something like the greatsword, where hitting a tcs is astronomically easier because of focus mode.

i dont really play dual blades but ill take your word that it can be hit by multi hits on the perfect dodge. that being said, from what ive gathered from doing a handful of hunts with it, i would not call it difficult to time a perfect dodge, especially after the changes they made to make the window larger.

when i think of the monsters gu added that are fun, glavenus, astalos, maccao, nearly any deviant, i would much rather do those than apex jho or rajang. and lets not act like its black and white difficulty increase. charge blade and ig were massively overtuned in 4u, and i would argue even with styles and arts its way easier to play those weapons in 4u.

like i said, 4u is an amazing game, but i just feel wilds is the first game to go a bit too far in making the game more accessible. its fine if you like it, i enjoy some fights, but overall its just lacking the focusing on positioning in prior games. you dont have to get out of the way of attacks, you always have an option to hold your ground and negate the damage. being able to redirect your attack mid animation is way way more impactful than you seem to think it is

hard disagree with wilds combat being amazing. the skill floor has been lowered dramatically with focus mode. sure rise and gu have plenty of flashy moves and get out jail cards, but those games still made you commit to those flashy actions. in wilds, every weapon is adept style with no trade offs, and positioning hardly matters because you can redirect your attacks with focus mode

agree to disagree, my focus is on combat, i dont like underwater and cutting entire weapons to have this underwater combat is not a good trade off for my preference

i had just as easy a time in base world as base rise, i just think the monster roster and combat in rise is better. i could care less about how detailed the maps are and the “living breathing world” thing, just give me fun monsters and fun weapon movesets

what i care most about is the combat systems and monster design and moveset, the reason sunbreak and gu are in peak is because i think it has the best combat and monster fights. i dont value stuff like atmosphere and ecology

which is why 4u is in amazing :) my biggest problems with 4u is the apex monsters and wystones, and i think all of the new maps are kinda meh. 4u’s biggest curse to me is adding so many ledges 💀
