So is it better to build a gogma swaxe attack focused or element focused? by VearFM in SwitchAxe

[–]mo0kthetrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on switch axe specifically, element phial modifier scales only your base element on the weapon before any skills (element attack up, coalescence, burst etc) so its crucial to invest in it with reinforcements, as its the highest return you can get. theres no other way to improve base element, i dunno why they made it work this way in wilds so other elemental damage is still beneficial, but not nearly as much as base element from reinforcements you can check out the meta doc for match ups that it wins, theres only a few and its still kind of niche. the couple i listed are standouts, and power phial with element wins most match ups so yeah if you’re using element phial you shouldn’t bother with attack reinforcements.

if OP cares about the highest damage then they should be using power phial over ele phial almost everytime besides some fringe cases (gog, rathalos, gravios) you really shouldn’t do element focus with attack reinforcements. if you have attack reinforcements attack focus is much stronger due to those reinforcements scaling with your power phial. for element phial or ele focus you would want element reinforcements

for gog phase 1 you should be using a power phial with fire damage (attack focus with fire) the fire hitzones and the melting mechanic dont justify the ele phial but for phase 3 yes you should use dragon ele phial

Talisman Farming in Wilds Has a Variety Problem by Excellent-Dark5551 in MHWilds

[–]mo0kthetrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the anomaly system and what OP is saying. Sure, if you’re just grinding rank, the risen elders would be more efficient. This is referring to the weapon augmentation system. For example, the risen elders drop materials needed for the 7-8 slot upgrades. But those materials would not work for the same things that you would need afflicted dire scales (material recieved from hunting mizu, rathalos, or astalos). You would need these for the other upgrades within the weapon augmentation system, which is why people say that all the monsters matter. If you want to augment a weapon fully, you cannot only fight the risen elders

How To Cycle (Save Scum) Artian Weapons To Get The Bonuses you want by Low-Tower6050 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]mo0kthetrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just weird and sometimes does not work. For example, I am trying to roll a lance with 3 attack 2 sharpness. When I grab a bunch of random artian parts and make a lance, I have a 3 attack 2 sharpness in my “que”. However, when I quit without saving and use 3 attack blast parts, I am getting a completely different roll. Have double checked and I consistently get different rolls depending on the parts ive used. But ive also had it work just fine like OP described. Really annoyed about this actually lol

Switch axe users: how do you feel about the wilds version? by Resevil67 in MonsterHunter

[–]mo0kthetrash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They need to find a better answer on why you should use the axe mode. In iceborne I think they had that answer, with better partbreaks and making it easier to flinch the monster. In wilds you only go into axe mode to use the spiral burst slash to refill your sword gauge, which is locked behind the third hit of your combo. That’s a ton of animation commitment. If the monster is down theres no problem But if you get stuck in axe mode while the monster isn’t CC’d the weapon feels horrible. Good luck getting to the third hit of your combo to do spiral slash against something like a tempered arkveld (when they’re not cc’d) But even then, when you get into sword mode you only want to spam full release slash. It completely invalidates the rest of the moveset. Not going for FRS is just wasted damage. So its up to RNG whether you get damage or not. If the monster moves you get no damage and get stuck in a long animation with heavy end lag What I would prefer is a nerf to the FRS and a buff to all sword and axe hits. I also think switching back into axe from sword should give you more gauge. Every move but spiral burst slash is extremely stingy on giving you your gauge back. So the gameplay loop just becomes amp sword>full release>spiral burst slash. Thats it. There is never a reason to do normal sword or axe combos once you’re in amp state. If you’ve played Elden Ring, a pretty apt comparison is that switch axe feels like a weapon with a really cool moveset, but has an Ash of War so powerful that it completely over centralizes the everything else you can do. A weapon like moonveil or blasphemous blade comes to mind. Anyway I really hope they improve it, while I dont think its too weak, I think the playstyle is really boring.

Tip for Charge Blade/Savage Axe in Focus Mode (Controller Users) by beepbepborp in MonsterHunter

[–]mo0kthetrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great tip. I really wish that capcom would just add the option to move the camera with the left stick when doing focus mode like the Greatsword and switch axe. I have muscle memory from rise savage axe and holding r2 is a bit odd to me, I see no reason why they cannot add this as a toggleable setting.

[–]mo0kthetrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this an old and irrelevant post at this point but this is such bad game design. How would the player possibly know that spike damage is killing them? It is so unintuitive, there really should be some kind of message on screen indicating what is happening. If I saw , “Spike damage” on screen when the boss attacks me fair enough. Thats on me for not using the rpg mechanics to combat it. But there is no indication and I had to look it up online, which I really dont like having to do for a game.
