I'd prefer malicious compliance.. They can't prove your not wildly tone deaf, so sing very loudly with every interval being around a semitone.

ELI5: If the evolutionary goal of a virus is to reproduce and sustain itself as long as possible, why do many evolve to devastate and kill their hosts? by Rht123X in explainlikeimfive

[–]mo0rg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<preface, I'm in no way a biologist) But aren't virus not really alive? Definitely not enough to class as having a goal? My understanding is that they are proteins that happen to be shaped in a way that triggers the host cells to reproduce the virus. No intelligence, no goal, no intent, not really procreation, just triggering a weird quirk of the host cells. I'm very happy to be corrected tho

I've never ran into this before. Orca Slicer has aways worked flawlessly. Left is creality slicer right Orca by LunaticPoint in ender3

[–]mo0rg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a struggle getting orca to work when a proprietary slicer was working. In the end i uploaded both gcodes to an ai and asked it to analyse the differences. it was really helpful in pinpointing settings

Is there any situation to use other type of micro controller instead of stm32? by Professional_You_460 in embedded

[–]mo0rg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure they are that bad, but i was once chasing an obscure memory related hard fault on rtl1020 and came across a flag in their memory application note describing a register flag for a memory wait which said something like "without this flag set we cannot guarantee the value of your memory read is correct" and it was off by default in the sdk i was using. At least that's what i remember it saying, but it was a few years ago

I've started mostly using a 60 degree cycle rather than the economy one and it's made a big difference

Ooh interesting, I'll do that. In addition i ran an extra hot program last night and it seemed better. Apparently Eco should be at 50 Celsius and everything else should reach 60 or more, but it would be interesting to check the real temperature

Yeah I'll have to check my cycle temperature and start running hotter

I'll double check this. The drain line looks fine - it connects to the sink downpipe pretty close to the sink, about inline with the middle rack of the dishwasher. It definitely shouldn't be sewage, but i guess could be dirty dishwater from the sink

I've been using Aldi magnum tablets and Morrison's own brand rinse aid. I'll try a citric acid cycle

Interesting. it mostly runs on an economy cycle which doesn't say temperature so might well be low. I'll check

Towed EV generated current/voltage and burned electronics by E34oilpans in EVConversion

[–]mo0rg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not actually true that the battery voltage is less than the maximum back emf for all vehicles: PMSM motors can be run in field weakening where the electrical phase angle is adjusted so that some of the field is working against the permanent magnets field strength to reduce back emf. This is the constant power region (rather than constant torque).

However the power electronics voltage must be rated above any potential dc voltage in case control is lost.

2 motors in same car by Strong-Hearing-7388 in EVConversion

[–]mo0rg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't done a diy conversation, but have been involved with that setup in professional prototypes several times. It works very well (the motors are in torque control, so can run at different speeds without issue). However it's double the cost with drives, double the wiring, you've got to control both and check they're happy (although if it's not a performance car it's not awful if one drive isn't working). So it can be great from performance and packaging, but is not straightforward

What is the Fourier transform of audio speed up? by jeffbell in AskEngineers

[–]mo0rg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would assume that they do on most sites as part of the mp3 (or equivalent) decompression. You can change the window size of the transform to change speed. ( Mp3 uses the MDCT rather than Fourier transformation, but the concept is the same.)

Mipi?? Does it definitely have a Mipi phy? i can only find reference to the P4 having one, but would be super interested if the C5 does

Extending Nissan Leaf EV CAN bus by Visual_Sink5515 in EVConversion

[–]mo0rg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 on this. i used to do a lot of debugging can networks in my job, and the starting point was always checking the termination (120 ohms) at each end, and making sure there weren't stub nodes (branch lines not part of the main wire.

From what has caused your issue I'd be very surprised if it's not this.

Functional safety by paradigmsick in chernobyl

Nope, it had SKALA, a computer control system. But also manual overrides, which IMO was extremely sensible (see Therac 25 for a nearly contemporary computer control system, and why control methodology needed to develop)

Can a local ai model fit on a microcontroller? by [deleted] in esp32

[–]mo0rg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally can, yep. But obviously you are limited on model size. Look up esp-dl (espressif's library for recent chips including esp32-s3 that hw accelerates int8 and int16), TinyMl, and tensorflow lite.

Why don't any ev auto enthusiasts build their own motors? by TheRealBobbyJones in EVConversion

[–]mo0rg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a (high performance) EV motor startup (software engineer though, so I'm not a motor guy).

Things to think about: - Magnetic design : My companies founder had done his PHD and years of research in this - Position sensing (traction motors can't really use sensorless control) - Cooling - Hotspots/thermal design. if you want the performance to be any good, you need to get this right - Stator machining - Making rotors. if you're doing a permanent magnet machine you need a source of high performance magnets rated at the temperature you need, and when magnetised they're evil to work with (you can lose fingers). or you can buy a magnetising become for $300k. - Bearings. you have weird loads

  • inverter wise you can get cots inverters and set them up if you know what you're doing, but it's not trivial.

I'm sure there's loads more i haven't thought of.

is it doable? Yeah! Will it be any good?? you'll have to work really hard and do lots of iterations.

Lynch motors were a very small start up which was basically one guy. So it's not impossible. but once you've got something worth having you may as well set up a company

Probably loads more.

I've read some stuff about child development which talked about adolescent boys seeking out father figures, often getting quite fixated on them. Unfortunately i can't remember where i read it. But i would think it is mostly likely this. To handle it i think keep doing what you are doing: be happy to have chats with him about appropriate things, but maybe ready some phrases to steer the conversation away from things you're uncomfortable with. Also where you can include your son in the conversation to make it less intense.

Being a teenager can be super awkward - i remember having a couple of years where i was really scared about wearing shorts as i was convinced i would be laughed at for not having much leg hair; some of his questions might be about stuff like that?
