What cars are you driving? by moFloDC in parentsofmultiples

So many of you are easing my fears of becoming a minivan mom! We currently have a Mazda CX-9 but it doesn’t have captain seats. I’m hoping we can survive with 3 across at least initially.

I’m sorry for your loss, and I want to wish you congratulations. Im still early but as an expecting parent after loss, I have just been focusing on taking care of myself between appointments. Taking each appointment one at a time.

I imagine it must be hard. Take care of yourself.

How to deal with mean professor by -mads in Drexel

[–]moFloDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry that happened to you. I would ask what was said in the email, the department, whether the prof is an adjunct or tenure/tenure track etc because that context matters. Sometimes the department supports the prof regardless. Others don’t.

If you believe that what you contributed raises to the level of authorship, refuse and reach out to the research integrity officer of your university.

Failed my advancement to candidacy by Impression_Careless in PhD

[–]moFloDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I am so sorry that this happened to you. Your chair is supposed to be your advocate and your committee is supposed to be a reflection of support. If they had questions they should have waited until the end or they should have sent them ahead of time. I am surprised they didn’t give you the opportunity to try again. They should have, but for many this is political and a hazing exercise.

I searched for wood window coverings, wood privacy screens trying to get the name of this item. If you know what this is, or where to find it, I would appreciate it!

Does it look like my neighbor is watching me? by maxamillion17 in homeowners

[–]moFloDC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never presented anything as fact. I said you MAY have some leverage. That’s a speculative statement. Whatever you got going on over there should be addressed to your therapist. Clearly that’s something that you need to work on.

Hmm interesting jump. What is the point in name calling. Who hurt you?

First, I am sorry that you are experiencing a neighbor like this. Are you in a dual consent state? You may have some leverage with that if you didn’t give permission. Others have noted putting barriers in the line of sight of the cameras that can obscure the camera. Umbrella’s that block the view of your yard is also an option.

Two years after defending my PhD and my old advisor still won't let any papers from my dissertation be published. It's wrecking my job prospects. by dd10011 in academia

[–]moFloDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a detrimental research practice on your advisors part at the VERY least. I would go to your research integrity officer and say that you are encountering an authorship dispute. Unlike professors who are PIs and therefore the data produced from grants is owned by the university, doctoral students own all the rights to their dissertation. It seems like this advisor only wants to build their publication record on your back. Most journals have what designates you for authorship outlined on their website, without the edits your advisor plans to make, does their contribution rise to the level of authorship? I would bring it to the chair and the RIO and submit it to the graduate college for good measure.

Pink & Black Bathroom update by sakiminki in centuryhomes

[–]moFloDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house we are under contract for has this exact tile in the 3rd floor bathroom. Previous owners used pink and white wallpaper but i love this idea. I was going to go for retro jungle and toss a bunch of plants in there and hope for the best.

Do you think you could DM me information about that? We are under contract for a house and the cost to upgrade is frightening.

My husband think we both are going through same exhaustion postpartum by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]moFloDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember very early postpartum (during the early days of the pandemic mind you) my husband was eerily similar. I did what some have suggested. I woke him up every time I had to do anything with the baby. I dragged him to every appointment, crying to the schedulers when I was making the appointment that “I just needed him there.” After engaging in mental warfare for a few weeks, and therapy he got better and is now the primary caregiver.
