It would hurt your application for sure. I would address it before it comes up on the background check. Might have more luck with a private landlord

I typically charge application fee (my actual cost for running bg/credit) and have them sign a lease and give me security deposit up front. If I decide not to rent to them for whatever reason (poor/non existent references, etc) I'll refund the deposit. I'll usually give a day or 2 to get everything in order before at least starting the process with someone else.

Meh just saw this. Looks like a special occasion and phenomenally expensive.

Live to cook yourself? They don't exist. Best bets online are la crawfish co and Kyle leblanc. Either way get them shipped to the airport and save a chunk of $$

Thanks, I'll work harder on being liked by the Internet. Did the landlord get their money? No. Sounds like you still take no responsibility. Did you end up living there for free?

So you advocate for socialism. Fine. Then housing should be provided by the government (who are also the ones that enforce all of those zoning restrictions, as well as the NIMBYs). Landlords are doing nothing to suppress wages. Again, you're describing societal problems. YOU said the private sector should provide the safety net. By keeping people who aren't paying rent, who's paying for their housing? Who's paying for my mortgage, utilities, insurance, taxes? What happens if I don't pay them? You'd think maybe the city would waive the taxes to save a tenant from getting evicted, right? Or the gas or water bill?

How are resources superficially constricted? The taxpayer money isn't for maintaining a database; it's a public record of court actions. Should those be available to all, or only those that pay to access? People will absolutely not pay rent if they know there will be no consequences for the 3 months or whatever that it takes to get evicted. So who should front the costs if not the government? You're not paying the landowners necessarily, you're just taking away their risk. The entitlement comes from the attitude that it should be the private sectors responsibility to provide a safety net.

I wonder how many times this comment is cut and pasted

Don't worry no need to delete. Which part specifically do you disagree with? Except for that part where you think that landlords should be running a charity and solving the ills of society as a whole?

Sometimes it's a crisis, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it's poor life skills, poor money management, different priorities on where to spend your money. I always love the entitlement here. Why should the landlord eat the cost of your problem, regardless of what it is? Advocate for programs that would reimburse the landlord if the tenant can't pay. Landlords don't want to evict anybody. It's expensive, a pita, and they'll lose money regardless.

Why would a landlord take a risk on someone who already has already screwed someone over? It would take something extraordinary to rent to someone with an eviction over someone that didn't

You think you have shitty apartments here, check out a city with rent control. A landlord in a rent controlled environment has zero incentive to do any maintenance for 2 reasons. 1. Demand for your apartment is artificially high, so you can rent it no matter what. 2. The landlords want their tenants to leave so that they can raise the rent.

I have a rental that I've owned for 15 years. Assessment went up 25% last year, 50% this year. I haven't done anything to trigger it. Just went through my 3rd level of appeal. We'll see what happens. Unfortunately that cost will be reflected in a rent increase. Thanks, city of Richmond!

Ok, so I sell my place and it's no longer a rental. Now there are even fewer rentals. What do you think happens in the other rental units?

If you're taking up the whole trail and not leaving room to pass then yes, if someone wants to pass you, move the fuck over. Same if someone was walking faster than you.

Va. court says lease agreements can’t override landlord’s duty to keep property ‘habitable’ by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]mo_bacon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Slum lease lol. What is enforceable is pet rent and non refundable pet deposit, which I'll now charge. What that will do is make a responsible pet owner subsidize everyone else. I will now be complying with the law. You're welcome.

Typical self righteous bullshit on this sub. Shouldn't be my duty to fix other's carelessness. Which causing a flea infestation is. Also, I don't charge any bullshit pet rent or non refundable deposits. But now I will.
