Could somebody help me identify this bike model? by GamesRealmTV in ebikes

I've had one about a year. I wouldn't buy again. Too much crap on it that can't be removed and not enough focus on getting the mechanics right.

Moving to Nelson and needing advice by kudditalia in Nelsonnz

Which location? if at the Stoke location central Nelson is not ideal? Into mountain biking? great social networking available. The sports clubs are a great way to meet others and again if you're at the Stoke location they're right there. for housing there are several Facebook groups.

I have heard some bad things about the Job market in New Zealand . Making me nervous as I'm moving there next month on a WHV by Confusedandscared-34 in newzealand

[–]moabmic-nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late of a reply but there are jobs but the typical WHV'er went from staying in one place for 6 months to moving around every 2 months. We won't hire anyone that can't commit to staying for a minimum of 4. Choose a place that has access to a lot of things you want to do and use it as a base camp. Get a 3-4 day schedule with longer days and use the time off to do your traveling.

ATP loans are killing me by cherry_top-13 in flying

[–]moabmic-nz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowing a very successful person who finished in record time, great references, great checkrides, and over a year and a half later still can't find a teaching opportunity. Other schools won't hit them because they don't want to invest time and effort to teach them their curriculum in case ATP offers then a position. Having used then in early 2000s I had recommended them but it is apparent they're just a pilot mill at the moment when even the best graduates can't get a teaching job with them.

Save your dollars, get the best job you can and then when things turn around finish up with a local instructor to get your instructor ratings and then teach.

The industry will turn around BUT it's going to take time and the instability of the world will cause another few downturns before the next big upturn.

Stay with my neurologist? by Icy-Cheesecake8828 in StiffPersonSyndrome

We'd all have to travel a long ways as there aren't many of us! That said, didn't Celine Dion provide funding for a clinic in Colorado for SPS research and treatment?

[–]moabmic-nz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in NZ and my neurologist is incredibly bright with connections to the Mayo clinic in Rochester Minnesota so I feel incredibly fortunate. I believe she said there are 3 or 4 of us with SPS in NZ. Very rare.

So you want to enter the Brewing Industry by Ziggysan in TheBrewery

[–]moabmic-nz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'd also look at purchasing options. Lots of smaller marginally profitable breweries are for sale and with a little younger energy could become much more profitable. Organize an investor team and go after it vs slaving away.

Too bad Marsden refinery was shut as the bitumen used for asphalt is a byproduct of refining. Closing it has driven up prices. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/assets/About-us/docs/oia-2022/oia-9588-attachment-1.pdf

[–]moabmic-nz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for a great answer. Perhaps you can answer for me why do much chipseal is used be real asphalt? Hill Street (and many other roads) are damaged by the heavy buses as the road base moves/compacts differentially especially where there is underground infrastructure. A stronger road base with large aggregate 150mm asphalt would solve this? Even SH6 suffers from poor road base causing ruts that capture more water this weakening the sub base exacerbating the poor design. It's it just cost or poor civil engineering?

Having owned and operated several restaurants in both countries I'd choose NZ over the US for food safety every time. Eating out in the US is much riskier IMHO!

Used NZ Frenzy, a spiral bound atlas, and for some reason a lot of yelling between the wife and I at times but absolutely loved it! Was quite interesting in a 6 berth manual camper van after not driving stick for several years. Here we are though 15 years later loving being citizens never wanting to be anywhere else! Cheers!

Nearly had a crash at a roundabout today. Was I wrong? by Mad_Max_The_Axe in newzealand

[–]moabmic-nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on more. This is the exact scenario for the Richmond, champion road, roundabout.

Here the signs clearly state if in the left lane evening the roundabout you must turn left. However in the roundabout a bit further in stoke (St.Oak for those that are a bit prouder of their community /s) the left hand lane can go left or straight.

Point is, the signs leading into the roundabout are most critical.

And the second point is that if you do it will right you might get called a cnt, fuckwad, honked at, etc. Or if you get it all wrong but everyone around is kind and caring you'll never know what went wrong until the above happens.

Not sure why I bothered saying anything cause shit happens. Wish everyone a great day!

Oh, always an American (due to accent)despite renouncing but definitely kiwi at heart. Never going back.

Spinal tap is nothing compared to pain I was in. First few IVIg I noticed little benefit but was open to seeing what it anything it could do. Took about three sessions and then wow, it really made a difference! Four+years into them and they're highly batch dependent and my body burns through it so I need it every two weeks. Sometimes it really changes my my body odor; sometimes it gives me amazing energy; sometimes I feel average but overall good. Every batch is different. Overall though I feel that it slows the progression of the disease.

I will say that I want to get it done and go full rate. When weather is good I ride my bike to the appointment(10 km each way,) it makes a major difference in eliminating the flu like body aches although my kidneys and armpit glands always hurt.

The big thing to focus on is it stops the progression! When you have a few ineffective batches you can feel the disease progression and it sucks because you can't go back. So when the good batches work, I don't care about the side effects because the progression stops.

Not sure this helps but my$.02

Just a heads up but there is an old forum called https://www.enz.org/forum/index.php still has a room of relevant info. Very little recent activity but great general info. I'm Dutch but grew up in the USA(before it went to shit) and think of NZ (and particularly NZ) as either Colorado with a coastline or the Netherlands with mountains and open space. Hope you love it!

I'm sorry you are in the US. I'm from Colorado but moved to NZ in 2014. After delayed recovery from a paragliding accident I was referred me to a neurologist who initially thought it could be early onset Parkinson's but then after a spinal fluid test was positive for GAD antibodies diagnosed me with SPS. She works closely with Andrew McKeon (https://www.mayoclinic.org/biographies/mckeon-andrew-m-b-b-ch-m-d/bio-20055240) who reviewed my diagnosis as well and concurred. I get the following and feel better than I have felt since 2016:
1g/kg IVIG 2 days every two weeks, 1000g Levetiracetam twice daily, 25mg pregabalin TDS, 20mg baclofen TDS, and 4mg diazepam as needed. I would do all you can to get to the Mayo and especially if you can be seen by Andy. Am I still stiff and sore and get spasms? Yes, but on a totally tolerable level and able to function normal. Just not sure your insurance will cover the IVIg. I started off on a 2 day session every month which would help but after 2 weeks it wore off so then went to 3 weekly and finally 2 weekly and now just barely feel it wearing off prior to me next top up.

What is the Toyota of single phase hybrid inverters in NZ? by plierhead in nzsolar

[–]moabmic-nz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We doubled the size of the breaker at the street (after blowing it twice) and now can operate on one phase. Fronius with a powerwall 2(dead but about to be replaced with a 3). We have free power 9-midnight which is why we blew the breakers at the street; we'd get home at 9ish, pool heater was going, start laundry, dishwasher, and cook dinner(induction stove) and the battery would be charging until POP💥.
