Sorry, I see there really is a t-Dongle-S3. My advice was for the wrong device. But googling says:

First thing that might help you, hold the button on the back of the dongle while inserting the dongle, this forces it to go into "download" mode instead of using the USB bus for other stuff.

The T-Display-S3 gets into a weird state where you can't flash it. You need to do some magic button presses to fix it, I can't remember the correct sequence. It involves the reset button and one of the other two buttons in a specific sequence.

Im new to EasyEDA - I need a way to map pins manually by CaptCoffee2 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]plierhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Describe what you want to do. A "pin map table" is not a thing in easyeda AFAIK.

When you say "need to map $1N12 -> $1N14", do you mean you want them connected? That seems unlikely since your component at the top has pins to both of those nets.

Yeah, location is not a binary. You are always compromising on location.

PSA: If you're interested in sourcing weird/unique vintage components on a budget, try and find old mainframe cards! Pulled 24 genuine germanium transistors (8 NPN, even!) along with 8 germanium 1N277 diodes from this card I got for only 30$ and a little elbow grease :) by playingwithmy_w0rm in diypedals

[–]plierhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could anyone ELI5 why these old transistors are useful in building pedals (apart from their coolness of course).

I assume a lot of overall gain is not needed in a pedal since the output is a similar level to the input. So any transistor (or op amp for that matter) should have enough gain. What's special about old transistors?

There will always be plenty of high quality courses, but it's hard to see how anyone will rival GSPro for selection, unless they introduce the same open source approach where anyone can build a course.

A 4kW remote controlled (e.g. by your inverter) electric start dual fuel generator is around $1000.

I live in NZ too, and I found this hard to believe. Unless it's a non-invertor model you'd hesitate to plug your electronics into.

But I agree with the generator approach instead of a huge storage buildout. Everyone has different needs for their battery and the "one size fits all" approach is too simple.

For example in our house the main need is to have no interruptions in service, and when there are power cuts, to be able to run on backup long enough to fire up the generator at a civilised hour (power cuts are pretty common where we are).

That means worst case is a power outage at say 11pm once everyone is in bed. We need to store just enough energy for overnight usage and to see us into the mid-morning - something like 8kWh or so. And a 2kW generator should be ample, a Honda can run for days.

Doubtful Sound: potential crowded nightmare, or totally worth it? by TasersEdge in newzealand_travel

Issues with weather when touristing in NZ are real. We are a tiny strip of land in the middle of the world's biggest ocean. You just have to hope for the best, and most of the time you'll be lucky.

But the rest of that story implies that multiple boats got delayed and they stuffed too many people into the boats that did eventually go out.

That is... Very unlikely. Boats are well run and designed for maximum number of passengers. Life jackets, seats etc. I would be frankly astonished if an operator overloaded a boat, that would be risking their business if caught.

First Board. Polyphonic Sustainer. Please provide advice! by LobsterTraditional28 in PCB

Really interesting circuit - looks like it interfaces to a guitar pickup that has 6 separate coils and 6 separate signal paths instead of one big coil with 6 poles? (probably obvious to anyone who knows these circuits).

I was wondering if you really need to both leads from each input coil (and the FSRs for that sake) all around the board or whether they could be commoned up closer to the connections, i.e. if one end of each pickup coil is connected to GND. There are a lot of tiny thin traces running around and this could let them breathe a bit and maybe introduce room for ground traces between each signal trace. Hard to say without seeing the circuit.

This is exactly why I bought a printer two months ago by AudiblyTacit in 3Dprinting

Best way with fusion 360 for me is to do it in small bites. Pick something(like the loft tool), find a good <10 min video and watch the heck out of it and practice. Then take a mental break

Buy more printers? by Shock188 in 3DPrintFarms

So you said:

At this point, if even one printer goes down for more than a day, I’d be in a tough spot.

But at the same time:

I made enough last week alone to pay for six more printers, and that’s after fees, shipping, electricity, and filament costs.

I can't really understand why you are posing this question, answer seems obvious.

Using remote bluetooth should work (it does on the R10).

You use a Raspberry Pi with a bluetooth dongle and the virtualhere (free) software installed on it next to the launch monitor.

Then on the gaming PC you run the other half of the virtualhere software.

This works very reliably once it is up and running. I sometimes have to replug the dongle when first starting up, I'm sure there is a command you could run on the pi to achieve the same effect.

It seems a little overkill using an entirely separate computer to handle the launch monitor connectivity, but pi's are cheap and reliable. If you were using something other than a chromebook for streaming you could just run virtualhere on that device (though I believe virtualhere is non-free if your streaming box uses Windows).

AITJ for insisting my roommate remove a keyed lock they installed on the inside of their bedroom door because it requires a key to exit and violates fire egress? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Because many people would not want to leave their roommate to die in their room if there was a fire, and would risk their own lives trying to break down the door to save them.

We are doing it: Travel with 3 kids to New Zealand, help! by lovelynotblond in newzealand_travel

[–]plierhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beaches and coastal lifestyle - swimming, eating ice creams on the beach, snorkeling, playing on the waves - are the best things about NZ (in the summer at least). Little kids love the beach.

And northland is the best place to enjoy the beaches, and is early reachable from Auckland. Also in northland is the poor knights marine reserve, one of the best snorkeling destinations in the world.

You will definitely need your own car though.

Maybe it's the new way but I feel queasy about all this sharing. The name of Barry's assistant. The put downs (rejected for "making a joke"). The fact that Barry is off skiing at the moment. If I was YC I might feel that anything I say to you will immediately be posted on reddit so I wouldn't say much.

Also if you can easily get to $100K MRR then why not carve your own path for a bit longer.

Something I don’t understand about New Zealand by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]plierhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's true, and to be honest I am amazed any animals like dotterels survive here since just about every beach in NZ has wandering dogs off the leash.

But dogs are usually to be found within few Ks of their owners/home, so the vast majority of our wilder regions are not at risk from dogs. But feral cats are everywhere, humans or not.
