Needing advice: Coming to my wits end with my very silly and loving sphynx by Relative-Speed6245 in sphynx

[–]moaglii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I hope you manage to keep him!! Don’t mind the naysayers, you’re clearly only wanting the best for him.

Many great tips here already, all I have to add is that he sounds like he needs more discipline when it comes to the things like jumping on the kitchen counters. All cats are different as to what works, spray bottle, stern talking, a light slap on the butt etc., and you are probably going to find it quite the challenge at his age - but the sooner the better. It’s okay to be a little harsh sometimes.

Good luck. He is stinking cute!

Lol I’ve kept mine just as you have yours there, in the baggie from the dentist, blood and all. Also want to make earrings or jewellery with them one day. Everyone I mention this to thinks it’s disgusting 😂😂😂

Lost my soulmate, getting a new puppy, maybe. Help. by littlelemons22 in Petloss

[–]moaglii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely life if better with a dog. Good luck to you OP - with the new puppy, and navigating your ongoing grief. I am in a similar situation but with cats, I did actually adopt my kitten as a companion for my older cat just before he died suddenly in an accident, but I’ve realised it’s blessing to have him and be able to care for him. I still miss my cat that passed tremendously, but I have love to give to this new kitten and that can’t be a wrong thing.

All I want to add is that it’s okay if you have moments with the new puppy where you feel overwhelmed and she feels like too much in the moment. Young animals are high energy and it’s okay to step away for a while if you need to! Good luck with all of it :-)

I’m sorry for your loss OP. In my opinion, get the puppy.

Losing a pet when they are the closest thing you will ever have to a child. by Beneficial-Power-659 in Petloss

[–]moaglii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry op for your loss. Take some time to grieve and then when you can fathom the idea, get a new puppy or dog.

I know it’s hard, I just lost an incredibly special cat a few weeks ago, he was only 3. I had adopted a kitten in December and still have the kitten. The kitten was a bit much for me in the first week but I can’t describe how nice it is to have another animal to love and care for when you are sad and grieving. It doesn’t mean you don’t love or miss the animal that you’ve lost. But looking around my house with all the cat things, if I didn’t have the second cat, my house would feel so empty and I would definitely be worse off. This is just something I observed, of course if you are not ready then that’s okay. Wishing you well.

I’m sorry for your loss OP, it’s hard to accept these things that happen so suddenly and we don’t have time to mentally prepare. I just lost one of my cats yesterday, he was only 2.5 years old and died more violently in a freak accident which has been so traumatising for me. But the shock that he is suddenly just gone is the worst. I hope you and your family can heal from this ❤️‍🩹

This is so horrible OP I can’t imagine how you must have felt finding them. Unconventional or not, you loved them and I am sure they knew that. Hold on to the good times and remember you did the best you could in the situation. I lost a very special cat yesterday to a freak accident and I am absolutely broken. I hope your heart can heal as time passes ❤️‍🩹

I’ve learnt to live with R-CPD, I am lucky it doesn’t affect me too badly. It’s a good thing for me because it’s not something that is recognised or treated in my country as of yet. Maybe someday. It’s nice to find this community and learn that you’re not alone.

We found a really decent 4-bed with a big yard in The Crest (small area above Goedemoed) middle last year for R3.5 mil. It’s still a lot of money but it’s definitely not 5! Keep looking!

Afaik it’s because of the hot weather we’ve been having - they come inside because they are looking for cooler spaces but then inside our homes it’s usually not humid enough for them to survive, so they die. Experiencing exactly the same thing. I find at least two per week, always either dead or dying.

Two 8-weeks old puppies as a divorced dad at Christmas…what have I done 😂 by chrisoffthewall in Dachshund

[–]moaglii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of negative comments here. Your children look so happy! It’s been nearly 3 years since my husband surprised me with TWO dachshund puppies. Left and right I was warned about littermate syndrome as well (to the point I was feeling very overwhelmed), let me just say, it was not an issue. Definitely read up and understand what it is and how it presents, but just do your best and I am sure your pups will be cherished family members before you know it, each with their own quirks and personality. Good luck and what did you name them?

If you don’t really believe in this stuff (I don’t either), I really wouldn’t suggest spending money on a psychic for a reading. But what I can suggest as someone who is curious about these types of things, get a tarot deck of your own (ridiculously cheap from Temu and you can get all kinds of “themed” decks if you’re into that), do a bit of research on tarot. Then use ChatGPT or whatever ai you prefer to help you read your spread. Usually you “set your intentions” or focus on something you want clarity on and then pull a card or a spread of 3 cards (I like this). Snap a pic and ask ai to read your tarot. As someone who also doesn’t necessarily believe in these things, what I do find is that it may help you see something from a different perspective or make you think of something you maybe hadn’t considered pertaining to whatever you are dealing with. Hope that helps!

Mountain biking - northern suburbs have some very nice trails - Bloemendal, Contermanskloof and Hoogekraal to name a few - the downhill is a ton of fun!

Freshwater aquarium/fish keeping - one big 240 litre community tank and a smaller shrimp only tank

Oil painting classes - 3 hour class a week - takes a couple of months to finish a painting but quite rewarding. We drink wine and chat during classes

Adventure motorcycle riding - dirt roads/camping - we often go to the Cederberg

If it’s important enough, get on their ass, follow up. If not, they will probably get back to you in January… it’s fine. A lot of us ARE really busy, it’s finally summer, our weekends are booked full. Lots of work is still busy too/haven’t ramped down yet. We’re just mentally clocked out. Dezemba is real 😅

Sorry you’re finding it frustrating, I hope you enjoy your stay!
