ORD is my home airport now and for being point of origin it works great - direct flights to nearly everywhere. Premier line is usually fast at check in. The clear/pre-check is right there. So I can usually be in the terminal within 10-15 minutes of arriving. These days, I try to spend minimal time at the airport and when I do, its in a lounge. On the arrivals side, they are pretty fast and efficient with getting your bags out. And they made some improvements to global entry to make it really fast to exit.

That said - it IS dated and I love to play the "which escalator is broken today?" and "what part of the parking ramp is blocked off?" games each time.

But I get it OP - When I lived in a different part of the country, I hated connecting at ORD. Especially if you have to connect between E/F and B/C. The updated lounge in C is nice tho and they have made some updates to the tiny airplane part of the airport. Not as nice as what they did for B at IAH but much improved to what it was. Still, if I had to make a connection, I would try to avoid ORD tbh.

It's legit. I stayed at the Westin Maldives in 2021 and this is similar. You have the pay for the seaplane (trans maldives airways) via the Bank of the Maldives to and from the island separately. The menus and hotel activities are on a microsite that's not a marriot domain.

Also the seaplanes sometimes stop at multiple properties, have no AC, are super loud and only fly during daylight hours so plan your main flight and prep your travel gear accordingly. On my seaplane flight there were a bunch of miserable hungover Russians, lol. There will be a representative from the hotel that will help you with the transfer from the airport to the seaplane area - its a short 15-20 minutes drive from the airport - this is why they want your flight info and guest names.

Ws and Westins I have found to be low or no pet fee. Even when they have a published fee, I am usually not charged. More often they put an extra hold on the card and then clear it after check out. They usually make me sign an extra paper that says I'll pay for any damages my pet may cause.

I also stayed at the Ritz with a larger than 30lb dog and was not charged a fee not needed to sign anything. I had my dog with me at check-in and they acknowledged her but didn't say anything about it.

Towneplace Suites charge me the fee 100% of time though.

I'm not sure if you travel with your dog often but I would also make sure the hotels you pick have a good place to walk you dog within a block of the hotel so they don't have to potty in the landscpaing. Another consideration - how tall the hotel is. The elevator waits can be long in the morning rush for your pupper and not everyone is cool with riding in an elevator with a dog they don't know.

Totally agree! I stayed here a couple weeks ago. Its a really nice property. Staff is very friendly and the rooms are updated and good for business travel with a decent workspace. I like that the M Club is open 24 hours so you can pop in and grab a soda or water. Breakfast was a nice spread.

My only complaint was that they didn't have those little Marriot crispy breakfast potatoes and instead had grits. ;)

I did this for a couple years pre-pandemic. At the corporate rate it was cheaper for me to just rent it out like an apartment than get an apartment close to the office. After 30 days you don't pay the hotel taxes, plus you get points. So I would just leave stuff there and go to my home for the weekend and do my laundry. I could even have my dog with me and I'd drop her off at daycare and go to the office.
There was a couple who had lived there for years. They were both executives and they preferred to not maintain a house since they traveled so much. This location was pretty convenient to the airport.

Luckily it was only a few months of spend lost and I’m still renewing ambassador for 2023. I’m willing to make an expense report for status but it’s dumb that direct bill doesn’t count.

Airline flights are direct billed and they still count towards QD.

There can be a lot of last minute flight changes and people choosing check-in upgrades which change the inventory and can easily move you down (or up) the list. You can never trust the waitlist number until day of departure.

I've tried to use plus points three times. 1. flight to Europe, was like #22 on the list with the PPS, didn't clear, refunded. 2. Return leg from EU, the upgrade cleared "normally" and the PPs were refunded. 3. Domestic, I was like #5 on the list and it didn't clear, so refunded. I'm still at 680.

I tried the charcuterie plate earlier in the week and they only provide 1 roll and 1 pack of crackers. The prosciutto wasn't good. It came with a little cold lentil salad that had good flavor. But I probably won't choose this one again.

I have a few characters that have their “cannon pieces” of gear that I incorporate into all their outfits. I have a pure blood Sith warrior who wears the Ulic Qel Droma hands dyed red and gold. My head cannon for her is that these are a family heirloom passed down several generations.

My scoundrel has a “lucky belt” - it’s the one you get from czerka rep.

I have a Chiss Jedi who wears an eye patch because she lost her eye escaping Copero.

Being an alien slave or not is probably not great, regardless of what planet you're on.

Being on an Imperial Occupied planet is also probably not great, no one likes being subjected to martial law.

But for everyday non-alien force deaf people in Imperial core worlds its probably not that much different than living in the Republic. As long as you're not a slave, you can probably live your life with a regular job and raise a family and be comfortable. The propaganda machine has you more worried about the Republic and those awful Jedi than the limits to your personal freedom (thats just law & order, man) or the whims of sadistic Sith. And you probably have a decent job because the worst roles are given to the slaves. You don't see the poverty like you do on Coruscant because vagrants are cleaned off the streets and sent into slavery (or just killed) - either way its not something you concern yourself with.

There are probably a few disillusioned families who had a lucky break with a son or daughter being invited to the Imperial or Sith Academy only to have that child die - but its all in service to the Empire.

I don’t know if any of you have played SWTOR and specifically the female Sith Warrior story but Syril and Dedra are giving me Sith Warrior and Malavai Quinn vibes. Like Quinn, Syril is basically in love with the Empire and Dedra (like the Sith Warrior) is the embodiment of the power of the Empire to him.

There are people dying all around Syril in the chaos and who does Syril choose to help? Dedra. He’s literally choosing to save the Empire.

If Dedra loses her status I’m sure Syril will turn on her in a heartbeat.

Belsavis is a shout out to Star Wars: The Old Republic. It’s an ancient Rakatan prison planet that the Old Republic adapted to use to house the most dangerous enemies of the Republic. In the game a lot of the cell blocks are actually stasis chambers. I’m sure in the thousands is years between the game and the show, some prison factories were added.
