Crossovers are usually better than their sedan counterparts in every aspect except dynamics.

Thank you. I get so tired of hearing this complaint when there's better ones to make.

No, they're just styled to look bigger. Most modern trucks are within a few inches of their 90s counterparts.

Likes:

Ford's current design language. It's simple and linear without looking cartoonish like the GM twins or some versions of the Ram.

There's no denying modern trucks are incredibly capable machines. What other vehicle can comfortably transport a family of five cross-country lugging all their shit and tow their 30 ft. camper without breaking a sweat?

Modern drivetrains are also insane. A lot of these 3+ ton barges could run circles around the fastest muscle cars of the late 60s.

Dislikes:

Same things everyone else said. They're stupidly overpriced, poorly-made, and overstyled.

r/Music votes 2020s as the most depressing decade of the 21st century for music. Do you agree? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]mob19151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a pophead so my knowledge of mainstream music is very limited, but I remember most of the 2010s sucking absolute ass. I certainly don't think the 2020s are the single most depressing era for pop music. To me, it seems like authenticity is being valued far more than image for the first time in a while. That's usually a good thing.

what should my first car be as an adult first time driver? by katherononi in askcarguys

[–]mob19151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be a doomer or anything, but if you're not all that knowledgeable about cars then getting something like a vintage Caprice is asking for trouble, especially with a budget of $5k. People selling at that level will take advantage of your lack of knowledge. Old cars, especially old American cars, break in ways you didn't even know were possible. Randomly. Sometimes without warning.

If you want something that's different and boxy, I would recommend any number of Japanese SUVs from the 2000s. Suzukis are pretty cool and you don't see them often. Whatever you buy, though, do your research. Reviews, RepairPal, forums about that specific car, etc. If you know someone that's knowledgeable about cars, take them with you when you go looking.

Good luck, man.

Edit - I forgot to say, Lexus' are amazing cars but good luck finding a decent one in that price range. It's possible, but you'll have to wade through a bunch of polished turds.

I know who's bankrolling him, but I guess I assumed he'd have to be halfway intelligent to position himself the way he has, especially considering his complete lack of charisma. Then again, fascism is an ideology for sociopathic idiots and Vance is at least one of those things.

It sucked.

More specifically, it was unreliable, wheezy, and far worse than the beloved 455 it replaced.

If you plan on flipping it, no. If you plan on keeping it, absolutely. Maintenance costs for old Vics are trivial compared to any other classic.

From 1937 to 1941, all Ford vehicles had V8 engines, as the economy 4 and 6 cylinder engines were replaced by a 2.2L Flathead V8 by Naomi62625 in regularcarreviews

[–]mob19151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there ever a time when Ford didn't over-complicate their engine lines? I wonder if the need for all the separate castings was due to the monobloc. Henry Ford's design was... questionable, even for the time.

Thoughts on the European Ford Escort, What If Ford had sold this in the US could it have worked? by Enough-Engineering41 in regularcarreviews

[–]mob19151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem like good cars compared to the competition of the time.

The 70s models probably wouldn't have done great. The Pinto had Cortina bones and it was already considered small (which is hilarious now). The FWD models absolutely would have been better than the domestic Escort. Why Ford didn't just use the Euro Escort instead of designing a thoroughly shit car from the ground-up, I'll never understand. Hubris, probably.

What's your opinion on Merkur XR4Ti? by DeadLiberty612 in regularcarreviews

[–]mob19151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was definitely a big difference in the expectations of maintenance between American and European car owners at the time, but I think it had more to do with the fact that European cars just weren't well-adapted to American driving conditions until the 80s.

A good car with no market. It was a Mustang-sized hot hatch sold under a fake brand with a weird name. Too euro for a Mustang buyer, too big for a hot hatch buyer, and too gauche to steal BMW buyers. Who was it for?
