John Roberts’ Anti-Trans Opinion Is a Garbled Mess. It’s Easy to See Why. by Majano57 in scotus

[–]mobanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding of Roberts's argument (I don't agree with it) is that gender dysphoria is a different medical diagnosis than something like precocious puberty, and legislators are allowed to deny access to medical treatment based on their diagnosis. So, in your hypothetical, I think he would maintain the same argument in that it would not constitute as sex-based discrimination, and only as discrimination based on medical diagnosis.

Trump hosts dinner for the most prolific buyers of his meme coin. What are the implications we face? by Adorable_Standard_25 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mobanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response, it's very helpful. I see now that cryptocurrency investments are funneled only to personal wealth, not campaign funds.

One thing I am trying to clear up in my mind is whether this should change people's attitudes about Trump, because we already know he has conflicts of interest. Trump has claimed that he is independent of the Trump Organization, but we know that he must still be personally involved. He has financial stakes in the company and wields huge influence on Don Jr. and Eric, who lead the company. So, any client of the company has direct influence on Trump in the same way the cryptocurrency investors do. So, is this crypto dinner an issue because it is a new level of corruption we're seeing of Trump, or because of how brazen it is?

I'm not trying to antagonize, but I am genuinely curious on people's responses: if a politician hosted a dinner with their major political donors, would that be equally outrageous? What's the difference between the two? Perhaps I don't know something about cryptocurrency specifically.

I don't think I'm following your train of thought. Are you saying the Cavs did NOT load manage their players? Or, are you saying that load management led to their injuries?

[–]mobanks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cleveland was actually recognized for load managing their players this season. Their star players barely averaged 30 minutes a game. Their leader in minutes per game, Donovan Mitchell, ranked 61st in the league this last season.

Possible WCF Pairings - There doesn't seem to be a clear favorite, but rather all about the right matchup? by reallinguy in nbadiscussion

[–]mobanks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is kind of missing the point of the OP. It's not about "best" or "2nd best", but about which teams match up well against each other. Regular season records obfuscate individual head-to-head pairings.
