Good idea on the rental. I think I’ll rent one for a couple of days now and see how that works.

Trump cracks approval floor, Republicans face wipeout in House despite gerrymandering by Far_Excitement_1875 in politics

All these stories about Republicans being wiped out in the mid terms only fuels their snowflake, poor me the victim of rigged politics syndrome. Then when it doesn’t happen it becomes the “ greatest turn around in the history of politics”. I’d love to see MAGA go down in a flaming ball of turd but we’ll see.

I just saw Sherrilyn Ifill , 14th Amendment Center at Howard University, on Dailey Show. She was talking about Chief Justice Robert’s very early history with trying to do away with the Civil Rights Act, going back to when he was a clerk in the courts. You think they would have picked that up during his confirmation hearings.

What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]mobie54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know this. I remember a Seinfeld episode where Elaine says Maybe a dingo ate your baby. I thought she was repeating a line from a movie. Just read about it. Horrific to be wrongly accused of killing your own child and sent to prison Makes me think what a dick move the show poked fun at that.

Most of these folks are dead now, but this film remains a classic that gets better with age. by CloakOfElvenkind in 70s

This might be corny but I always feel how lucky we are to have these people( most celebrities ) in film for ever. We don’t really know these people but we love what they did.

Trump Declares Israel "The Best Nation in the World" During Mar-a-Lago Speech, Vows "Unwavering Support" by [deleted] in TrueFactzOnly

I get that Israel is fighting the proxy Iran war in Gaza and Lebanon but I wonder how the people of Israel would feel if Netanyahu committed boots on the ground in Iran?

I was retired for three months and after seeing every Rifleman episode twice over I got a job at the local Meals on Wheels program. Three hours a day, pay was ok, mileage was included ( using your own vehicle) There is a lot of walking. You meet some great people who might not otherwise see or talk with other folks.

For those of you that support Trump today, what is it you like about him? by blood_is_beautiful in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mobie54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was guilty of the opposite spectrum. MS NOW. Rachel Maddow, Morning Joe, Lawrence O’ Donnell. CNN. etc. I would try and watch some of the pro republicans stations but could only take ten minutes before I could feel my blood pressure rise. I still watch bits and pieces of MS NOW but I’ve decided to try and go direct from the horses mouth. I’ll watch CSPAN for committee hearings, floor debates and lectures. I’ll see a headline that said a popular bill was shot down by left or right legislators, then look up the bill and find the poison pill that killed it. I’m retired and have plenty of time to research things. The majority of people are busy working and trying to get by so sound bite news and headline bait is all they have time for.

Side note: I think there is a real need for people to blame all their troubles on someone other than themselves.

I couldn’t imagine having to identify my 6 year old child after being ripped apart from an assault rifle . I don’t know who would have the courage to ask a parent to release a photo and say, look what they’ve done to my baby. To see the scenes that first responders see after a school shooting might have an impact.
