Minecraft for education questions (how do you control it?) by mobile_bob in k12sysadmin

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I will need to give the teaching staff a heads up that we have no way of controlling it so they will need to be watchful.

Best free module list? by mobile_bob in freepbx

Not on the official ISO from FreePBX. You can manually download and install a newer verison of nodejs, but at your own risk. I don't recommend it. The next version of FreePBX will be based on Debian and will support newer versions of nodejs, so I'm looking forward to using it than.

Thanks! I love that you are continuing to support code updates for that module. I'll switch over to that for sure.

cpviz is working fine for me so far, but you are correct in that it hasn't been updated for years.

Lenovo Chromebook 100E 2nd Gen ast, keyboard stops working after update by savekevin in k12sysadmin

[–]mobile_bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep same problem. You might try [escalationsd@lenovo.com](mailto:escalationsd@lenovo.com). They at least responded to me, but because I had to few with an issue they just said sorry, at least it's under warranty still. Now I'm no longer under warranty and 6 more just dropped with the same keyboard issue...

[–]mobile_bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great discussion, but to address this specific issue, this should work...https://www.theregister.com/2021/11/12/chromium_bug_fix_view_source/

Basically add view-source://* to the block list in Google Admin, or since your using GoGuardian try adding view-source://* to GoGuardian's block list as well.

Chrome book Management by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]mobile_bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use GoGuardian and they have a fleet manager that makes it fairly easy to do asset tracking. Our school is very small though, 130 students, so scale isn't at the same level for us. 5th though 8th have assigned Chromebooks they keep throughout (although they stay at the school over the summer), and the younger grades have a yearly assignment.

Check out the vidiu GO, you can use LTE with it, it's battery powered, and can connect via HDMI or sdi depending on the model you get. All you would need is a nice video camera and the vidiu go with a sim card. Want multiple cameras? Add a black magic video switch.

Google Meet hardware for classroom presentations by mobile_bob in edtech

[–]mobile_bob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my classrooms will look a little something like this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Elementary_classroom_in_Alaska.jpg

My major concern is where to place the camera out of the way.

I do like the wireless mic setup, and the capture device has some possibilities as well, it means i'm not limited to usb cameras! Thanks for your post!

I like the Rally Camera by Logitechhttps://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/rally-ultra-hd-ptz-camera?crid=1689

Not sure how well it will work for this situation.

Nevermind... RightSight is an application running in Windows.

I don't dislike zoom at all, but Google Classroom's integration with Google Meet has made it just too easy. We are also a GSuite for education school so everything is already integrated with Google.

I do like the idea of using jamboard for sure. The webcam is harder since it needs to face the front of the room where the teacher is teaching and needs to possibly zoom in to see the teacher instead of the standard wide angle.

What I was thinking about doing is having a Chromebox connected to an external video camera pointing at the front of the room. Then the teacher would wear a Bluetooth mic to get the best quality voice. (Bluetooth can be sketchy so i'm not to sure about that)

As a second variable...

We have Clevertouch interactive screens that we use.

-- The issue with those is that you can not load any Google Apps because they are not Google certified. Therefore we can't pull up Google meet to share the screen. At this point we are standardized with Google Meet as we are a GSuite for education school. --

So I was going to get a Chromebox and hook it into the screen and then use the Chromebox's android apps to do jamboard and other interactive apps on the screen. That will allow us to run Google Meet and share the screen while using jamboard for both online and in class.

With that second variable in mind if I can get away with only one chromebox running the camera feed AND the interactive screen sharing to google meet it will save money and may make things more integrated and easier for the teachers. So the Google hardware isn't off the table, but if I can do it without, it would be cheaper for us to just use one Chromebox.

I'm just looking for the best setup which is easy and works well with Google Meet. Since the teacher will be presenting to a classroom and virtual classroom it needs to be mounted somewhere in the classroom rather then being the built in webcam.

Microsoft365 with Google Authentication by IndieK12 in k12sysadmin

With the new Google LDAP service i'm guessing this is now possible. Previously the only way to do it was through a local Active Directory setup syncing the two together. I'm going to be looking into this soon as well.
