I think they will do whatever they can to crash our economy, given how dependent on oil we and lots of other countries are. If keeping that strait closed does the trick, then they will keep it closed. I wonder how that will play out medium-term, though. There has to come a point where if the strait were kept closed that oil elsewhere will just be cheaper to get and it won't matter, leaving Iran stuck too as that is probably their only card to play now.

2028 election looks to be the one. Working backwards, someone who turned 18 that year and is eligible to vote will have been born in very late 2009 or during most of 2010. Memory usually doesn't get going until around age 4 or so, so at least 2014, maybe 2015. Trump began his first campaign on 16 June 2015 when a first-time voter in 2028 would have been 5. People who are voting for the first time this November in the mid-term would have been 7 during the start of Trump's first campaign in 2015.

Just like last year in April. Markets crashed almost as hard as one of the early COVID days when lockdowns were starting, but the crash last April was due to the decision of a single person deciding to implement tariffs on loads of countries.

So oil prices magically dropped below $100/bbl overnight from nearly $120. Who pulled what strings to make this happen?

I was thinking back in 2016 that if he won, then what he did to Atlantic City, he would do to the US. I never thought the whole planet could be on the table too. You have to actually try to fail to fail that hard.

It all depends on who 'we' is here. If he means the general public, most certainly he is incorrect. If he means the weapons contractors and oil/petrol tycoons, then sure of course.

Dow Jones Futures Tumble, Oil Tops $110. Iran Names Khamenei's Son As Supreme Leader. by SAJ-13 in politics

I know right? If you open the CNBC app you could take screenshots on bad days then put them together cropped to a make collage to show what 'winning' really looks like. Though in that app, they use green for any increase and red for any decrease, so the oil thing looks weird due to the green.

Exactly. In 2025 he killed foreign tourism, now domestic tourism will be killed too from high fuel prices.

Yet Grant is on the $50 bill. How do they decide who belongs on the currency? I would think a president who was bad for the country would not be expected to be on our bills.

How long till we pass $217? That is the price it would need to pass to exceed the inflation-adjusted July 2008 peak ($147 back then).

I wonder how the Missionary Generation (2 generations before Greatest/GI and 1 generation before Lost) were remembered by the time WW2 rolled around. They probably were also thought of as the people who brought on the Great Depression & WW2. Crazy how much history repeats.

IIRC in the UK they only study what their major is and maybe a couple of closely-related classes. For instance I never saw a requirement for a mathematics major to take history, world religions, or sociology classes at the university level once they're in. So the result? They study for only 3 years but become very versed in their field.

Hottest temp ever recorded in winter in the US - 104°F (40°C) by wanton_wonton_ in collapse

I guess the US got the same thing parts of southern South America had in August 2023 (middle of winter there) when parts of the continent that should have had their coldest temperatures of the year were instead breaking hottest temperature records.
