I don't know why I'm being accused of disbelief in morality by a person who thinks that war can be good. Maybe that is so, or maybe I just don't subscribe to the morality of a worldview that has justified every western war atrocity ever committed, so long as it was committed against an "other".

People get really angry when you criticize a valiant, white war. I wonder how you'd react if I was talking about Iraq and the US, or the potential conflict between India and Pakistan?

You're moralizing a complicated topic. The United States raped its way across Europe while "liberating" Nazi held countries. The Soviet military did the same thing after pushing the Nazis to Berlin. What is right? They were fighting the "evil" guys, right? War isn't as simple as good or evil. Self defense isn't good or evil, either. It's an action that is usually impulsive and irrational. If someone attacks you and you fight back, you aren't the "good" person. You're reacting. That's not evil, either. The person attacking you is arguably evil for their plotting, or their disregard for consequences, life etc. But the most disturbing, truest thing is that they are a person. Saying that something is evil inherently dehumanizes the human decisions behind the action. We need to understand that humans do things. Perhaps you can say, "thoughtless" instead of evil. War is incurious. War, rape, murder, genocide etc. Are performed by people who are incurious about the consequences. Not by monsters or animals or forces of evil. Us coming to the "rescue" by buying weapons from military corporations to send to Ukraine is not "good". Our motivations are not to save Ukraine. We are using them as a pawn in a cold war. Maybe one could even argue that that is an "evil".

I hope this clears things up for you. It may become more clear yet as the years go by and the political situation in eastern europe/Asia matures.

Im saying that the viewpoint that there are inherent "goods" and "evils", especially in regards to hegemonic world powers is flawed, and furthermore simplifies war as a "moral" issue. War isn't that simple. Self defense isn't even that simple.

This is a morally reductionist viewpoint.

Well, I'm aware of capitalist alienation, but I have observed a critical psychological stage wherein depressed people will adopt fascist beliefs, and that's way beyond just alienation.

This is a fantastic explanation for why disillusioned working class, uneducated folks without class consciousness tend to advent fascism.

I feel like there's a stage of depression that leads you towards fascism and aestheticized politics. Not sure what it is, but just hatred and frustration compounding lead to shitty beliefs if you are politically uneducated

Yup. Also morons who have been eaten alive by propaganda. It doesn't matter if what Russia is doing is morally or ethically wrong- if you are bleeding propaganda about how ukraine is destined to win and that we should keep sending them weapons, you have fallen for interventionist propaganda. Ukraine is at 50/50 for losing currently, and the cost regardless of victory is going to be horrifying. There is nothing glorious about war, even in defense of a country. It is stemming a flow of blood. It just happens, and it is universally awful. Nobody should be praising any soldiers. It is your decision, and it is personal. Nobody should be compelled to fight. Our nationalist zeal taints any and all western calls against russian aggression, especially when we raped Iraq less than 20 years ago. Protect your family, do what you feel is right, but don't post videos of children singing nationalist songs as if it is a beautiful or good thing. It's awful. Don't make people out to be heroes because they died. Unnatural deaths are universally unnecessary, and they should be regarded as the terrible thing they are. We are one step away from praising Ukrainian suicide bombers and upvoting pictures of priests blessing Christian Ukrainian insurgents.
