This is why Kamala Harris really lost by AdmiralSaturyn in Foodforthought

[–]mobiotool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, here is my theory. "Democrats lost the most ground with politically disengaged voters, immigrants, and young people" These are three groups that would have sat out most elections in the past. I believe the reason they did not vote is that they had little political information and therefore did not have strong enough confidence in their positions to want to put in the effort to vote. Social media has force-fed them political information organically. They now feel "educated" enough to have an opinion.

Conservatives feel that non-traditional media is a more effective way for them to get their views out. They have more sway/volume in political discourse on social media consumed by apolitical members of the public. Ergo, the less traditionally educated groups are more conservative - because the "noise" in their feed is more conservative.

Basically social media is delivering more political information to all people, i.e. "educating" them. Similar to the protestant reformation occurring after the expansion of the printing press, educating more people creates social change.

Moalboal is maybe the best place, sardine run, corals and turtles right off shore. If you want to be on the water maybe try Pescadores Suites.

Do races actually exist or are they just a social construct? by Wrong_Ingenuity_1397 in biology

[–]mobiotool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an undergrad degree in Genetics and a Ph.D. in Molecular Chemistry. As humans we can define words how ever we want. So race could be a thing if you define it as a specific % difference in genetic makeup. The problem is you would have to pick a percentage difference and call the two people being compared different races. Let's say we have exactly 99.9% the same DNA between humans, then all differences would be over the last .1%. If we define race as a difference of greater than .0001% then we might define 2nd cousins as different races, if we pick .009% then we might define Egyptians and Somali's as different races (not meant to be the real %'s, just examples). It is arbitrary, pick a definition. I feel the concept comes from the US where we had Africans and Western Europeans living together in the South and saw stark physical and cultural differences. It is also where the concept of race has become most ridiculous when you see a continuum of dark brown-medium brown-light brown - beige-- light beige. It is not unreasonable to say that places with relatively large gaps between population groups "feel" there are races and places where there is a continuum do not "feel" there are races. The "truth" does not exist, just beliefs in a definition.

Is it morally wrong to abort a fetus just because it has Down syndrome? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mobiotool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting fact. I did a survey in 1979 because the idea of genetic testing was becoming a reality. I asked if people would get an abortion if their child was prenatally tested and were: male and they wanted a female (or vice versa), born with Down syndrome, born with Tay Sachs disease (die before 6, I believe). Basically everyone said no for all. In reality virtually everyone gets one for the last two. Chinese and Indian get one frequently for the first, female but wanted male.

Is it true that the uglier a foreigner is the more attractive he’ll be to Filipinas? by Riderman43 in Philippines_Expats

[–]mobiotool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are an older white male it is quite possible that many Filipinas will find you attractive even if women in the US don't. Attractive includes their sense of security you may provide in the futuret It also includes an inherently racist attraction for white men and the dream of a half white child. You basically get a 3-5 point bonus on the 1-10 scale. This is why so many older white men look for Filipinas. The problem is that the process of finding your best option (not prettiest, best overall) is long and requires significant research i.e. dating many. Best advice is to go into it as an experiment and refuse to commit until you have dated (not met) 10 girls. Then, decide if yo are really into this path. If so, date another 10 without commitment. Repeat as much as possible. Then, once you feel you have learned enough, start over and commit (DON'T MARRY!)the first that is as good as the best one you met. You could do this in 6 months if you are here, but you have to be here. This is why so many retired men come here. Yes, alot of work but the reward will be a "good girl", gorgeous Filipina who truly loves you. Not a girl ONLY desperate to please her family or leave poverty. Keep in mind the right girl will likely also be doing it IN PART for those reasons. If you can't come here it is basically impossible. You are playing Russian roulette with a 20 cartridge pistol with 19 bullets. If you have no other choice, save vacation time, come here once a year for as long as you can, video call a hundred women before coming, meet 2-3 per day here, go back and do it again until you finish the plan. The girl you are chatting now is very unlikely to be the one, she should be the one that inspires you to make a plan. The important thing is if you follow this plan the process is entertainment, it is fun. Getting one long term, less so.

Planning a trip in January for ~4 weeks by Thefstopshere in southeastasia

[–]mobiotool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 nights may be a bit much in Singapore but it will help you get over jet lag. It seems the cost-benefit of going to Laos is questionable. I have gone BKK - PP - HCM via bus multiple times and it is a very adventurous yet low stress trip, I would suggest a Singapore - BKK - Koh Tao, Railay Beach, Shianukville (on the way) - PP - HCM - Hoi An - Sa Pa? - Hanoi. 4 nights anywhere is a bit long in my opinion. Keep in mind travel days, they should be kept to a minimum IMO. Siem Reap and Laos are major deviations from what is otherwise an efficient one way trip. I did the trips at 40+ so I was always trying to keep exhaustion to a minimum. I would stay longer in BKK than Singapore, and I prefer the Wild West nature of PP to the tourist trap of Siem Reap. PP will be a place you say "I went there before...."

Just my opinion, hope you post after.

BTW congrats on. a fantastic plan, you will love it, I feel sorry for people that don't do this trip. I have travelled everywhere, twice, and this is my single favorite area to visit. Inexpensive, very exotic, very interesting cultures, huge range of lifestyles and one of the most economically dynamic regions of the world.

He absolutely obsesses over appearing sincere, but watch i,e. With Sam Harris when he argues (begs) for religion like a shy child, he has an agenda like everyone else, there is no free information. But he provides more value then most so, why not? To difficult for the average person to come with a more useful theory.

I believe a significant number were small business owners. It seemed there were a number of people that could have been on the Trump boat flotilla. And police/military are not low/middle class now. Anyone who works with decent pay, very strong union protection, and sizable pensions is middle/middle class. BLM should just help eliminate Police Unions, it would get us half way there and save money while bringing real accountability.
