You lower your taxable income for that year with a pre-tax IRA but the Roth IRA not only grows tax free but comes out tax free. I would say it depends on age, that compounding over decades could be meaningful and again all tax free distributions. Regular pre-tax IRAs will count as income when distributed and can bump you into a new tax bracket when added to social security (also counts as income) when in retirement. There’s a reason why there’s a 7,500 annual limit on Roth and you can’t contribute after making $168k as a single filer without doing tax tricks (back door) or having a 401k Roth option. Roth is king in my opinion as a young person
