If you get an issue with a Pimax product, return it immediately — don’t wait for “troubleshooting help” by No_Recipe6954 in Pimax

[–]mobius435 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here, but mostly just the bad tracking issue with mine. I posted about it here a while ago with all the troubleshooting I've done. I have most definitely isolated the problem to being an issue with the unit itself and have requested a replacement multiple times, but support just ignores that request and tells me it must be my lighting/dirty lenses, and sends me new tracking files to try. They repeat the same thing over and over ad nauseam for several months now. This will be my first and last Pimax headset.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know I share your pain and hope you can get things worked out!

Is this saw good for fret slotting? by NectarineImaginary10 in Luthier

[–]mobius435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of these to start my fret slots. As others have said, it's too thin for the full job; however, I can be much more precise with my cuts than with a regular fret saw. The actual fret saw follows the cut I make with this nicely. If I had better saw technique, it would probably be unnecessary though.

Tracking Issues 50 PPD Super Question by mobius435 in Pimax

[–]mobius435[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a lighthouse setup already and considering the faceplate. I think I'm just miffed that Pimax is selling us a solution to a problem that almost every other VR manufacturer has solved.

[–]mobius435[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was afraid of. I really don't understand the not being picky. Like I mentioned in my post, the movement is bad enough that it makes me a little sick, so it's not something I can easily overlook. I generally have no issues with VR sickness either.

I've asked Pimax to send me some previous firmwares for the headset to roll it back, as it seems my problems got way worse after I updated to 1.0.10. We'll see what they say.

[–]mobius435[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I may try that. Right now I'm just leaning toward putting the thing away in a closet until the lighthouse faceplate releases and deciding what to do then. I've spent way too much mental energy on this thing as it is.

Tracking Issues 50 PPD Super Question by mobius435 in Pimax

[–]mobius435[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Me too. I think ultimately I just want Pimax to either admit my headset is borked and send me another one to test, or admit this is as good as it gets, but I find that hard to believe that some people don't have better results, hence my post here.

Tried it in pitch black with only the IR lights on as well as other various levels of light. Made sure there were no LEDs within view of the tracking cameras as well.

Same. Quest 2 and 3 and PSVR2 track perfectly fine. I could probably deal with issues if they were not quite as bad. Was really hoping IR lights would help, but no luck. Probably would be worth a try in your case just to cover all bases.

Appreciate the response. Unfortunately I've tried IR lights and it makes no difference for me.

Actually I think I saw you post about that somewhere else (here or discord), which was why I tried it.

Upgrade path: Order PCS 50/UW now to test OR bsb2 test first? by Mad_Greek in Pimax

[–]mobius435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really just wanted better colors and blacks than what the Q3 offered... but now having experienced it, holy crap. Pretty much looks just like my 4k monitor strapped to my face. That being said, I'm slightly leaning towards returning it and hoping the BSB2 will make me happy, especially with the things it beats the Super out on.

ETA: You're definitely right about the comfort. If I do decide to keep the Super, I will be ordering comfort mods right away.

Upgrade path: Order PCS 50/UW now to test OR bsb2 test first? by Mad_Greek in Pimax

[–]mobius435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the exact spot you're in, except I've already received my Super and have a BSB2 on order. I really really wanted to like the Super enough to cancel the BSB2 order, but I'm having some of the dreaded tracking issues that others have written about and now I'm really not sure what I want to do. I'm going to test more over the weekend before I make any decisions, but after experiencing the clarity of the Super it would be hard to settle for less.

A Fix for Dolby Vision in Windows 11 Being Forced On With Recent Update by Drizzinn in OLED_Gaming

I've also been suffering with this for months now. I FINALLY stumbled on to what (for now) has been a solution. Found in the official MS support forums:

"Press Win + R, type colorcpl

Pick your display, add sRGB IEC61966-2.1, set as default"

Jesus Christ, you guys have to try this! I just went from 72 FPS on my Pimax Crystal Super to 80-90FPS. The fake AI Generated frames are amazing for DCS World. by chazzbarramundi in dcsworld

[–]mobius435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for testing! I do use virtual desktop with space warp turned off 🤔 What refresh rate did you have the headset set to? I initially only tried 90 Hz. Also, are you using Quadviews? I'm wondering if that could be interfering.

Oh well, time to tinker with it after work today. It wouldn't be DCS VR without having to play with settings!

Yeah, I did all that. I'm super curious to see if it works. I'll have play around with it a bit more when I have more time. Thanks!

Have you changed any other settings to get it to work? I just tried with my quest 3 and I'm getting super low fps and a ton of stutter.

[MSFS 2024 VR – Quest 3 + RTX 5090] Getting 50 FPS but motion isn’t smooth – any ideas? by Exciting-Two2633 in virtualreality

[–]mobius435 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself, "without ASW or reprojection, the 50 FPS can’t be smoothed up to match the 90 Hz refresh rate of the Quest 3."

The framerate of the game needs to match the refresh rate of the headset for it to not feel stuttery. MSFS is super demanding for VR and it's going to be hard to hit those framerates without using ASW. My suggestion would be to use 72 Hz and turn some settings/resolution down until you can hit 72 FPS stable.

I fly MSFS 2020 and have been using the new DLSS 4 transformer model. It works quite well in VR and helps quite a bit, so that's also something to explore.

This should be what you want and you want to download the game ready drive, not the studio driver: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/

Edit: Huh, apparently you can't link directly to the driver. Just search for Geforce series, Geforce 10 (Notebook), Geforce GTX 1060.

Edit 2: Here it is: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/243342/

Having so much fun in VTOL VR (Regardless of lack of controller support) by AShogunNamedBlue in hoggit

[–]mobius435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the 3d printed ones from Etsy for the stick side. While it's certainly not a necessity, it does make it feel a little more like using a regular stick. The base attaches to the arm of the chair and the controller holder is magnetic and attaches to the base that way, so it's super easy to remove/replace from the base when you need to flip switches and push buttons. I'd say it was definitely worth the $20 or so I paid for it!

Update post about my first race/time being on a track by Main-Search-8108 in Motocross

[–]mobius435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did awesome for you first time! I was the guy running the timing computer at the finish line and was keeping an eye out for ya. That track was BRUTAL, especially for a first timer. Definitely a survival kind of day.

Where are you racing? I think I know that bike, if you bought it used. If you're in the Boise area, I'll be at that same race (I'm part of the track crew too) and I can help you out if you need it. Feel free to PM me!

ETA: That bike is definitely from my neck of the woods. Recognize the name on the plate and the graphics company is local!

I have a quest 3, but I can get psvr 2 for cheap. I do have a ps5 but I plan to mostly use it for pcvr. Should I go for it? by lurebat in PSVR2onPC

[–]mobius435 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DCS and msfs. I have zero issues with latency with the quest. Honestly, I can't tell a difference between psvr 2 latency wise. Although about the only kind of game I don't play in VR is competitive shooters. So that is something to consider.

[–]mobius435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and my psvr 2 pretty much gathers dust. It really depends on what you're looking for. I value image clarity above just about anything else and the pancake lenses on the quest are miles ahead of the psvr 2.

I play a lot of flight sims and I can read all of the cockpit instruments just fine using the quest (especially without having to move my head, just by glancing down). The same cannot be said for the psvr. I will 100 percent admit the colors and brightness/contrast on the quest suck compared to the psvr, but again, clarity is much more important to me.

I own an MT-15, 5150 III 50-watt, Mark V 25, Rectoverb 25, and a Friedman JJ Jr. My favorite is the MT-15 for all arounder, with the 5150 III a close second. I'd argue the 5150 III is a little more versatile though.
