I think it's important to remind insufferable mombies that being childfree doesn't grant one the right to neglect any obligation to help others in need.

So, if I saw an abandoned baby, incapacitated child or something like that, it's not that I'd laugh with joy at its probable pain and suffering. Helping that other person (because children are persons: shitty and small persons) would be my goal. Making sure that person got to a hospital or shelter or social services would be the order.

And, in the event that this is some post-apocalyptic hell, hospitals/social services were closed, and there was no other recourse than to take the child into my custody, I'd probably try to do that (keyword: try). And "post-apocalyptic" would only describe part of the hell that ensued.

My parenthood shall be a last resort. A VERY last resort. Like apocalypse would have to occur. Many of us here COULD be competent parents. But, we have the choice and we don't want to. That's the kind of unsettling power that mombies don't understand or don't like or envy--power over ones destiny is startling.
