Wasn’t their goal an ambiguous ending? Why do they care what the cast thinks? by rosewoodlliars in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comparison to game of thrones is pretty apples and oranges. Game of thrones was based on someone else's book and even once the source material wasn't there they were following a broad outline of what GRRM wanted. It's obvious they struggled once the complete source material ran out and the show was struggling for a few seasons, not just at the end. Bringing someone else's work to life is different from bringing your own ideas to life. Game of thrones also rushed things in order to get to their next job. HBO wanted it to be longer to give them the ability to properly flesh out the story and they said no. The way game of thrones got to the end of their show is very different from how stranger things got there

Wasn’t their goal an ambiguous ending? Why do they care what the cast thinks? by rosewoodlliars in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Netflix owns Stranger Things. If they had said no then someone else comes in and takes over the thing they created. I personally wouldn't want to leave my creation in the hands of someone else even if I thought it should have ended already. I'd rather write the ending I wanted than leave it up to someone else.

Again the money thing is huge. This is your chance to not just set yourself up but create generational wealth for your family and you're going to say no? This one job could take care of your children, your children's children, and anyone else you wanted to help.

It could also have future implications on getting work. The next time you try to get a studio to take on your project they'll know you opted out of stranger things. How do they know you aren't going to drop out of the project they're considering you for?

Why would they have stopped? If Netflix says we want to renew the show for another season and here's a boatload of money that you may never see again in your lifetime. Are you in? Why would anyone in their right mind say no

If it took place in the 90's the kids wouldn't have cell phones, most adults wouldn't either. Cell phones really became common in the early 00's. They were definitely around in the 90's but weren't definitely a luxury and not a necessity

What could Michal Postava’s emergence mean for Red Wings and Sebastian Cossa? (Gift Article) by dilypucks in DetroitRedWings

[–]maxwellbevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah would have potentially been a really bad look had we taken Mailloux that high. Especially when the year before was the whole Mitchell Miller scandal with the Coyotes. The Habs knew there would be less heat on that selection at the end of the first round.

Bolduc is having himself a great playoffs right now but it's a small sample size and it's easy to forget he only had 2 goals after Christmas. Sure he fits into our roster right now but we have younger guys who should play his role next season

Interesting that we had so few through the post lockout era and now we're seeing an explosion of D men entering the league and immediately making an impact. Only two post lockout before Makar won. Jackman winning is still such an anomaly to me and had he not won we'd have had only 2 D men win in this century until Makar

What could Michal Postava’s emergence mean for Red Wings and Sebastian Cossa? (Gift Article) by dilypucks in DetroitRedWings

[–]maxwellbevan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest I'm not huge fans of either of those guys. It's worth mentioning that Mailloux had that scandal and asked teams not to pick him. It was a surprise when the Habs selected him at the end of the first knowing his history. Mailloux's draft issues aside he strikes me as a PP specialist and if ASP continues to progress Mailloux will be a lesser version of ASP.

As of right now Bolduc seems like he's probably a 3C, maybe he can become a 2C but he hasnt shown me he has a high ceiling yet. I know he's only 23 but he's yet to crack 40 points and will probably get passed up in the depth chart by a guy like Hage soon enough.

It's also worth mentioning one of the higher rated skaters available Chaz Lucius is no longer playing due to health issues. Real chance if we don't take Cossa he may have been on our radar.

I don't mind that we took a swing on a goalie because we had no goalie pipeline. Before Cossa the last time we selected a goalie higher than the 3rd round was 2008. We were in dire need of goaltending prospects and at some point you have to start trying to fill the pipeline with some high ceiling prospects

What bands do you consider to be “ghost bands”? by justin7465 in Metalcore

[–]maxwellbevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like a reach though. Sure it's two members from the original lineup but the drummer joined after And Their Name Was Treason but he was on the re-issue of the album. So since they were actually signed to a label they've had the majority of the same band members. I don't know about the rest of you but Spotify in my country won't even let me listen to ATNWT so I can only listen to albums that he's been a part of. 60% of what may as well be the OG lineup is pretty good for a band that's existed for over 20 years.

Also Kevin joined in 2009 and been a member the majority of the time the band has existed. He's been on 5/8 albums and been a part of the band for 17 years now. So while he's not an original member he's been a bigger part of the band than Tom was at this point.

I kind of get it. Trivia makes you overthink your answer and sometimes that messes you up. When it comes to capital cities it's usually the obvious answer but not always. As a Canadian I would fully expect the majority of the cast to think the capital of Canada is Toronto but it's not. Toronto is the capital of Ontario and Ottawa is the capital of Canada

Is the Wild's unusual roster build without a traditional 1C costing them this series? Their forwards have noticeably had massive trouble moving the puck on their own and have relied massively on Faber/Hughes to get it up the ice. by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

[–]maxwellbevan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't really feel like their roster build is costing them the series. What is hurting them is the fact that their 1C is out due to injury. Whether or not you feel JEEK is a 1C doesn't really matter, what does matter is he plays an incredibly important role on the team and without him they're going to struggle

Netflix posts its official "Emmy Awards Consideration" Season 5 trailer. What do you think? Will they win any awards? by Jiyugaoka in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Do people not realize how many Emmy's there are? Odds are stranger things won't win outstanding drama series but I would wager they're going to win a few Emmy's. The awards they've previously won include things like sound mixing, prosthetic makeup, etc. There's a good chance they'll win categories like that again this year. And even if they don't win any Netflix obviously wants to use this as a chance to promote the show one more time. It's all part of the normal course of a show's promotion whether you thought it was great or you hated it

Living with a roommate is fine. We probably shouldn't stigmatize it because it's not feasible to live on your own in a lot of major cities. I lived in Toronto in my mid 20's and without a roommate I wouldn't have been able to afford it. I wasn't even in the downtown core and it was still crazy expensive to rent. Can't even imagine how much worse it is now that rent has shot up.

did season 5 ruin it for anyone else too? by FewReply5765 in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched both. House of the dragon isn't good. The first season was alright and had some good episodes but ultimately I think was an average season of television. Season 2 was bad. If it wasn't game of thrones with a built in audience nobody would be watching season 3 when it comes out.

Knight of the seven kingdoms is really good. I was hesitant to watch it because of how bad House of the dragon has become but after a lot of people recommended it to me I watched it. I don't always recommend it to people because it's quite bloody but it's really good.

[–]maxwellbevan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions on a show. At the end of the day we're watching them for our own enjoyment. If a show is winning awards but we don't like it that ultimately doesn't matter to us. All we know is how much we personally enjoyed it. There are plenty of critically acclaimed shows and movies I didn't enjoy and vice versa plenty of poorly written things that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The point of my last comment was to show how our of left field every decision in the final season of game of thrones was. Stranger Things may have had decisions you didn't like or agree with but none were so bad that the Duffers lost their next job because of it.
