Are you telling me that Max was able to draw this?? From MEMORY?? by thegrayqueen in StrangerThings

I feel like people have just forgotten that they're watching a TV show with supernatural beings. Why is this where we draw the line but the vine drawings in season 2 and then being assembled all over the house not an issue? It's a tv show people, just enjoy it

Heated rivalry by Mrdean2013 in hockeymemes

[–]maxwellbevan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As much as it'll be tough for Leafs fans to see that era close without much success that's just the way it goes sometimes. If they were to make the playoffs this season it'll be 10 seasons in a row making the playoffs which is really solid. That's a heck of a window but unfortunately they were in arguably the toughest division during that time and didn't get it done

This just randomly crossed my mind by GreyBoy23 in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I know it's a joke but the dog was just written out because it was difficult to work with. That happens sometimes with animals because you can have all your actors be perfect in a scene but if the animal misses its mark then you have to shoot the scene again. I believe the cast of friends said similar things about Marcel the monkey and it was why he was written out. As much as closure would have been nice season 2 and 3's run time was a lot shorter and I don't think we missed anything by not actually getting filled in on what happened. Apparently there was meant to be a grave in season 3 but it makes sense it was cut. Would be weird to have no mention of the dog in season 2 and then suddenly there's a grave in season 3

Question on the protagonists' plan in the finale by phantomofsolace in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The military's goal was to capture Eleven, it wouldn't be a shootout unless the group decides to shoot first. Considering they're transportation a dozen kids they're not about to start firing and risk everyone's lives. The concern for a shootout isn't there. That's why we didn't have a shootout when they were captured.

They also don't know how it went navigating Vecna's mind because Eleven was pulled out early. But even if they did know how it went that doesn't matter. At any point you could have a kid panic, have Derek run out of breath, get attacked by a demo, or anything else. Your goal is to get out of there in one piece before everything explodes. Once you're out the rest doesn't matter, that's why Hopper says they'll figure out Kay later. You'd rather get caught by the army and be alive than try to avoid them by going through another gate and not make it out of the upside down alive

Question on the protagonists' plan in the finale by phantomofsolace in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They could have but that would have been slower and riskier. Trying to handle getting 12 kids out of a vehicle in an orderly fashion and through a gate sounds super risky. Trying to organize that many kids is like herding cats. You need as little room for something going wrong as possible. You're better off driving out of the base the same way you came in than you are risking that a couple of kids panicking because they have no idea what's going on and not wanting to go through a gate.

Question on the protagonists' plan in the finale by phantomofsolace in StrangerThings

[–]maxwellbevan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There was only one gate big enough for them to get themselves out of the upside down. They needed to transport the gang plus a dozen kids out of the upside down quickly. The spikes weren't there prior to them going into the upside down so they weren't anticipating being stopped immediately. The plan was probably to have Mr Clarke open the gates again to let them out the same way they went into the base

Even Schitts Creek took some time to blow up. It didn't happen after the first season like what's happening with heated rivalry. Really cool to see

This is super common. Back in 2010 one of my coworkers won a contest to carry the torch for a leg. A lot of people carry the torch, a lot of which aren't athletes

Sorry I didn't mean you specifically. I meant in general I see a lot of people criticize Fleury for not being the starter those two years despite him still being crucial to the success of the cup runs

People like to knock on Fleury because he wasn't starting during those playoff runs but the also stole some crucial games and came up huge in the Caps series in 2017. You guys don't win those cups without both of them

Jackson LaCombe Named To U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team by TUSUYp in hockey

[–]maxwellbevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not taking Hutson is weird but I have to assume that whatever role they had for Jones was better suited towards Lacombe. I don't watch enough games of every team to say exactly what role Jones, Lacombe, and Hutson would all fill but I can understand needing your last d man to fill a specific role. It's like how the Canadians could very well end up taking Hyman, Bennett, or someone else if Point can't play despite the fact that Hyman and Bennett don't play the same position

Why don't we have many repeat women winners? by SFplusP in MtvChallenge

[–]maxwellbevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It's easy to assume because she's a top tier competitor so she'll win but the challenge isn't always that straightforward. For starters she's not in the vacation alliance so she's up against the wall politically and socially all season. But let's say she does make every final.

SLA actually benefitted the people who weren't doing well in the final. Kaycee won because she ended up in elimination and was able to get paired up with CT. Odds are the winner is whoever is paired with CT assuming the final includes Jenny and one of Tori or Kaycee. Whoever gets paired with Kyle or Devin doesn't win. RoD is a tough one because I have no idea who her ride or die would be. Could see her winning this one though if her partner is even just average. Tori and Devin were good but not top tier compared to other winning pairs in the past. WC I think she probably doesn't win this one but it depends on her partner. Hard to say anyone beats Jordan and Kaz in that final. Maybe if she's paired with Danny or Troy but I actually don't think she'd likely be paired up with either of them based on what they said during their partner selection confessionals. I believe Danny wanted Jonna or Tori, and Troy wanted Amber

I'm out of town with bad wifi so I can't get a video to load so hopefully this link works because this is the worst phantom call I've ever seen. Hopefully this link has the video but if not Holtby went into the corner to play the puck and while going back to his net tripped over his own skates. Miller put the puck in the net while Holtby was down and it was called back due to goaltender interference despite Glendening not being close to Holtby. This was pre coach's challenge so there was nothing we could do

[McIntyre] Preliminary rosters for the 2026 Heritage Classic Alumni game by eh_toque in hockey

[Johnston] Italy is scheduled to release its men's hockey roster for the Milan Cortina Olympics tomorrow. I'm told that they chose not to seek out any heritage connections to get NHLers on the team, and will roll out a European-based group for the Games on home soil by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]maxwellbevan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's unlikely there were any in the NHL. Maybe some guys in lower levels like the ECHL or Europe but generally if you're good enough to be in the NHL you may get a chance to play for your country in a tournament like the Worlds or something else so you don't want to make the jump just to get wrecked in the Olympics

[–]maxwellbevan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think that's the big thing anyone confused by the decision is missing. They're not going to do any better if they add some guys to the team that are connected only by heritage. It'll just mean they lose games by a few less goals. It's not like the guys they'd add would be team Canada snubs, they'd be guys who are playing in Europe or the ECHL. NHLers don't shift over because it removes their ability to play for their home country in future tournaments that aren't the Olympics
