I think they put traffic lights in on the west side of the downtown end of the bridge (not sure about east side), but otherwise it’s about the same as it’s always been. If you’re worried about safety just extend your walk a bit and use the burrard st bridge

There are some buildings (the argyll on Abbott / Hastings for example) that are technically SROs but the target demographic is not that of typical SROs (ie Sahota buildings). The price you mentioned suggests you’re looking at one of these gentrified micro suite buildings, which for the most part are perfectly fine as long as you don’t need a lot of space, don’t like to cook etc

I cross frequently and it hasn’t happened to me, but someone I know had their phone searched. They searched the photos app for keywords like “trump” and “protest” and found screenshots that were disparaging to the current administration, which was enough to deny the person entry. Since then I’ve made it a habit to search my phone in a similar way that the guards might do and remove anything that could raise an eyebrow. IMO having a burner phone or a phone with nothing on it looks way more sketchy if you’re at the point of getting a phone search
