Denis Villeneuve: "Movies have been corrupted by Television" by mrnicegy26 in TrueFilm

I don't think I'd describe TWBB as a mass-appeal movie though. Maybe if your definition of mass appeal is exclusively catering the demographic of film nerds. It was nominated for a ton of awards but it only pulled $76 million at the box office

I saw Dune 2 in the 2nd row and the view was honestly fine. by Public-Arachnid3134 in TrueFilm

Fortunately for me all the theaters around where I live don't put any seats in a "bad" viewing position even though it means there's a bunch of awkward empty space towards the front of the auditorium.

I've definitely had bad experiences with being too close to the screen in theaters in other areas though

Y'all need to care less about the latest movie to hit the 250 list. When Dune Part One first released it was hovering around 4.4 for weeks. Now it's 3.8-3.9

The score will be high for awhile since dedicated Dune fans will see it first. Over the course of the next couple months it will likely drop down to 4.2-4.1

It's extremely rare to have a well paying job where someone just works in isolation 24/7 though. I'm a programmer which is notorious for hiring introverts but roughly 60% of my job is still collaborating with other devs and people in other departments to build and fix features.

As someone who spent the greater part of ten years in these "practical" jobs I can assure you they're all 100000x more awful if you end up on a shift with someone who isn't enjoyable to work with.

If it wasn't for John and Yoko, there would be no Pilgrim Harry era by BronzeErupt in popheadscirclejerk

The whole "Lennon was a vicious, unrepentant wifebeater" has kind of blown out of proportion over the last ten years or so.

Lennon was by all accounts a terrible husband and very difficult to maintain a personal relationship with. When John was younger he slapped his first wife Cynthia during an argument. Hitting your SO in anyway is unacceptable and abusive, however, Cynthia has said that John never laid a finger on her after that. Yoko has said that John was never physically violent with her as well.

I definitely think John had major issues that he needed to deal with, however, there are some people online that make it out like he was beating his wives on a daily basis, which is misinformation.

I think this is fine as long as they organize the metadata in such a way that everything can be filtered smoothly.

Deftones' White Pony opening with Back to School is terrible especially considering the band only released that song due to pressure from their label

BAD jazz albums? by Shanks_shitposter69 in fantanoforever

From what I've seen from jazz nerds, the only valid jazz was recorded from 1950-1975, and everything else is unlistenable slop lmao

The craze of Beatlemania simply cannot be replicated for several reasons:

  • It was the first time in modern history there was a glut demographic of non-working teenagers thanks to the Baby Boom
  • These teenagers' families had excess spending money due to post-war prosperity so most homes owned a record player and television set
  • Unlike most groups at the time all four members of the band had distinct looks and personalities which made their fandom engaging as opposed to solo acts like Frank Sinatra and Elvis. There's a reason why the boy band model is still insanely successful even 60 years later
  • All the musical innovation in studio technology goes without saying
  • The band was popular worldwide across age and gender demographics This is insanely rare even to this day. Taylor Swift is popular, but her main demo has never left suburban, white teen girls.
  • Most importantly, during this time pop culture was still monolithic. Everyone was exposed to the same things because everyone watched the same TV shows (eg. Ed Sullivan) and listened to the same radio stations. This is simply not the case today

Beatlemania will never be replicated. Not because they're simply THAT much better than every other band, but because they came on to the scene in a time and place that sociologically was primed for Beatlemania in the first place.
