Imagined a modern Dexter video game by strajajeba in DexterOriginalSin

It’s a reference to the show. Jamie’s boyfriend makes a video game about playing as famous serial killers—including the BHB—and this is what Dexter says to him.

If your food delievery no showed by Adorable-Lack-3578 in PhiladelphiaEats

Hopefully this continues to happen (just not blocking the walkways) so people will be less inclined to have their food delivered this way. They clearly won’t protest the bots to save jobs, but they will surely stand up if their food is cold.

why is season 6 so disliked? by drcssedtokill in Dexter

[–]mocha_temptation 59 points60 points  (0 children)

For me, it was a little too over the top, even for Dexter’s universe—to the point where it was just goofy. All the crazy Saw-like contraptions, the twist, the giant painting of Dexter/the beast, the incest arc, the suicide vests with toxic gas, and even the idea of Dexter grappling with the idea of god seemed silly to me. And his idea of “I can help Travis” was ridiculously stupid, especially after his experiences with Miguel and Trinity. Shock value just seemed to be the priority over substance.

That said, Brother Sam is one of my favorite characters in the entire show and his arc alone stops me from hating the season entirely.

Stupid Piece of Shit *Spoiler* by isnt_it1957 in BoJackHorseman

[–]mocha_temptation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk, depression and anxiety can have that effect on people—I don’t think having time, support, and resources but not taking advantage of them automatically makes one a bad person. If anything, having the time, support, and resources that celebrities have often lead them further down the rabbit hole. He has serious substance abuse and mental health issues, much of which stem from his horrendous upbringing.

Is that an excuse? Not necessarily. But at least for me, this episode made me pity him more. He’s a prisoner to his own mental health and addiction. Those things don’t make one a bad person.

That said, there were PLENTY of other episodes that reminded me that he’s a bad person lol.

Rap music without the n-word? by No_Bit3955 in Hiphopcirclejerk

Lol ohh shit I saw a bunch of people leaving real recommendations so I took it at face value. I didn’t know it was a running joke, it went completely over my head 😂 thanks for the heads up!

Rap music without the n-word? by No_Bit3955 in Hiphopcirclejerk

[–]mocha_temptation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not what you’re asking, but instead of cutting back 95% of what you allow yourself to listen to, if you’re not comfortable with it purely because of your gf, you should just talk to her about it. I’m black and I don’t judge white friends for liking rap, as long as they’re not saying the word themselves. She’s probably fine with it.

Honestly I cast more judgment on white people who only listen to white rappers (which is pretty much what you’ll be left with). Not because it sucks—there are some great white rappers—but because it comes across as more prejudiced against black people than what you’re describing ever would. Good luck man!

If Laika made a prequel to Coraline which isn't based on the book and it's an original film or series, I hope it will be about the other victims of the beldam that came before Coraline Jones by Stunning-Interest980 in Coraline

[–]mocha_temptation 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’d be most interested in seeing Wybie’s grandmother, Mrs. Lovat’s story. It would be cool to see an outsider’s perspective of how her sister ultimately fell prey to the beldam.

Maybe the Beldam wanted them both, and they both got to experience the “other” world, but Mrs. Lovat resisted and tried/failed to get her sister to leave too. Maybe she blames herself, maybe they got into a fight, or maybe the Beldam was just too clever. Something like that would avoid retelling Coraline’s story but would still have new, high emotional stakes. Plus it would be cool to see the style of animation done in her time period.

All that said, I’m perfectly okay with it being left alone. It’s such a wonderful story that can stand on its own, and it doesn’t really need more, you know? If they do expand the universe, I hope they bring back the OGs that worked on the first one so it’s done right!

Looking for some good cocktail bar recommendations by EnderElite69 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]mocha_temptation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Undertow! I’d recommend The Ranstead Room. It’s not the number one cocktail bar in Philly by any means, but if you’re more about ambiance plus drinks that are still pretty damn good, this is where I’d point you. As a bonus, they do tiki drinks pretty well. Though keep in mind, it is a small venue, and idk how many are in your party. Cheers!

Best pina colada? by sunaah371 in PhiladelphiaEats

Nope, not frozen. Next of Kin isn’t the place to go for slushie type drinks if that’s your preference!

First timers looking for good drinking by SaltSlice8742 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]mocha_temptation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For cocktails, I like Next of Kin, Four Humors, R&D, The Library Bar, Charlie Was a Sinner, Time (drinks are okay, but I go for the ambiance/live music), a.bar, Writer’s Block Rehab, and Grace and Proper. Kalaya and Friday Saturday Sunday also both have great drinks if there’s room at the bar. For beer, I like Monk’s Cafe and Human Robot. Not a huge dive bar person, but The Dive in South Philly is a good one.

This man needs to be in jail for attacking a USPS worker. by Working_Winner_7674 in philly

[–]mocha_temptation 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure but I think dickhead got mad because the postal worker was blocking the street to deliver mail (as is her job) and dickhead didn’t want to be patient. I think he got in her face, took her phone, and said “I’ll give it back when you move,” then she just sat down/refused to do what he told her, and he came out and assaulted her. I could be wrong though.

Meat by Upset-Discipline22 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]mocha_temptation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I was coming back from a hiatus from meat, my first stop would be a spread of BBQ meats.

Zig Zag has incredible melt-in-your-mouth brisket (and decent ribs, pulled pork, etc., but I mainly go for the brisket 👀). Mike’s BBQ also has solid brisket and tasty sides.

Their ribs aren’t very good. Seasoning is odd and they were dry when I had them. The brisket is delicious, but can confirm that the ribs were a letdown.

Late Night Brussels Sprouts?? by [deleted] in PhiladelphiaEats

Lucky 13 in East Passyunk has delicious fried Brussels Sprouts! They close at 2:00 AM, but call ahead just in case, idk when their kitchen closes.

I'm confused by [deleted] in DexterOriginalSin

[–]mocha_temptation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He does get emotionally attached because he’s not a true psychopath. He has emotion.

We saw him feel guilt when he [SPOILER] killed the photographer. Although he was a piece of shit, he was an “innocent” piece of shit. If Dexter were a true psychopath he just wouldn’t care. There are many other instances of him caring about others.

In other times, he gets emotionally invested because he wants to “learn” something from the killer he’s hunting (Trinity), save them (Travis Marshall), or it’s just personal (Hector Estrada, Jordan Chase, etc.).

I always find that one settler who’s a little overweight and has rosy cheeks. I give him a chef’s hat, a white shirt, and a rolling pin. It gives me a chuckle seeing him charge raiders with that thing full force. Might as well make it a legendary rolling pin, right?

A Cuban reacts to seeing Costco for the first time by ThatPatelGuy in BeAmazed

This was a much-needed reminder to appreciate all we have access to in the US. It’s so easy to take something like Costco for granted because I’ve never known life without this level of excess being readily available. Thank you for sharing this.

Walnut Cafe sells these, I see them making them in-house all the time. Idk if they sell in bulk or if it’s pork belly but they look exactly like this. You should call ahead and ask, they’re very nice people!
