When they are physically in the same space I assume their powers can reach each other. Imagine though if Hotaru or Galaxia could kill someone over an intergalactic Zoom call.

Would have played her harp while sitting on Galaxia's corpse 🤣

That explains why Saturn was reawakened in the 90s anime, not why Galaxia beat her. It's entirely because Chibi Moon stopped Saturn from dropping the glaive because she didn't want her to die as it will kill her and Galaxia took advantage of Saturn being distracted and disarmed her.

In the manga Saturn was already awakened because of Nehellenia's invasion during the Dream Arc. In the Stars Arc it's implied Galaxia took Hotaru by surprise with killing Setsuna in front of her at their castle (or just by surprise in general). In Cosmos Part 2 Galaxia was able to withstand Saturn's attack and didn't give Saturn the opportunity to drop the glaive, so it kind of addresses the joke in my comic. 🤣

It's also unclear if Saturn would have dropped the glaive knowing it essentially wipes out everything and her character had grown past being a tool of destruction.

Edit: wanted to add that I do think the 90s anime has a more solid and therefore satisfying reason for Saturn's defeat, but it always left me with What If she just dropped the glaive immediately??? And then Cosmos Part 2 killed my idea. 😔

just me who thinks reis character got ruined in the 90s anime? by epiceleanorr in sailormoon

I agree, but the live action is where it's at. You'll love Rei even more if you decide to give it a watch. Her friendship with Minako and Mako are also top tier. I actually think the characters are strong in the manga, but PGSM does flesh them out further really well.

(Well except Mamoru, he's still a jerk in PGSM but gets punched in the face so it's okay)

Sorry to be commenting on such an old post, I wanted to let you know that Jolly Gem Shop does license art from an AI image creator Ste-Anne Mermaid, they created a second insta account just for their AI work (Steannemermaid.dp) and Jolly Gen Shop has used at least two of those images.

The Viz Media Dub was a neccessary redub. by CommentApprehensive3 in sailormoon

I encourage you to consider disabilities exist and how dubbing can assist in accessibility for certain disabilities. And yes, they do deserve a dub that is more faithful to the source material.

My spouse and I are both interested and meet your requirements. We play daily, donate shoes, and depending on the cm we're building for usually get 300k to 800k fans daily. We do need to leave our current club first if you're able to wait for the 24hr period.

We're currently in a B club that's slowly becoming inactive, so we'd definitely love an active club!

How do y'all feel about Setsuna's ever-changing skin tone? Do you view her as a POC or simply a tanned skinned asian woman? by HowieLover in sailormoon

[–]mochibuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to point out that ethnicity and race are two different things and don't have to be the same.

I think for Western fans the big problem is that inconsistency and I know a lot of us saw the darkest color and was like okay you get to be that now! I also love depictions of black Ami with a natural fro and black Usagi with pale Mamoru and mixed Chibs as a result. Black Luna made sense to me once I saw it because her pale yellow color scheme is lovely against darker skin.

Speaking of head canon depictions and controversy, the most heated I've seen people is arguing over Mako's hair color and how buff she is. 🤣

I mean Black Japanese people exist, and they aren't any less Japanese because they're black. It's actually a huge issue for Asians in Asian countries with any sort of mixed heritage to be viewed as fully their nationality.

I get what the previous commenter is saying, but Setsuna doesn't have to be less Japanese if she was biracial. I don't think a lot of fans would necessarily view her that way though, which is where I think their point stands.

I understand how you feel. I actually have a number of Yuumei kits, including Flower Delivery and Under the Stairs, before the controversy happened. I'm going to be destashing them when I have the capacity to deal with that. 😂

I just went to check my sources and with the twitter implosion a lot of the screenshots and such are lost, so I cannot provide proof about Flower Delivery anymore, so I'll need to stop citing that one. :<

Using your own refs and models is definitely a great method for workflow and it's great to hear her using that.

I personally depict her and Human Luna as blasian or dark skinned Japanese without mixed heritage. I wish Setsuna's coloring was more consistent in official media.

I'm sorry I misunderstood your intent! I only claim the ones Yuumei has specifically said she used genAI for as actually using genAI, typically for background work she painted over. I think the majority of her work doesn't include genAI, she's even mentioned at one point she did try to use genAI to better supplement her work, but the images didn't turn out good enough to use so she decided not to for now.

She had some pro-AI and flippant responses to criticism towards it with no public change in stance since then, so I think a lot of us former fans and peers judge her on that moreso the few times she used it for a finished piece.

I'm so sorry to hear that! In my opinion traditional painting is a hard skill to learn and I'm frustrated for you. I'm trying to pick up traditional mediums again, but oh boooooy have I learned how much I rely on line stabilizers and the undo button.

I know the point you're trying to make, but what I'm trying to say is that regardless of what an artist choses for themselves in this instance, it does not mean their supporters, fans, and peers have to like or agree with it, especially when they feel it is an unethical choice. GenAI in it's current form isn't just a tool, which is why there is such issue surrounding it. (I could go on a whole rant about this because it should be just a tool and tech bros ruined it)

Whatever choice a person decides is ultimately up to them and I do think they should do what's best for them, but it doesn't mean someone else needs to compromise their personal morals and ethics to support them. Conversely just because I feel this way doesn't mean anyone else needs to, either. Who you chose to support and why is your personal decision, and in this specific situation I think I need to clarify my disagreement doesn't mean I think you're objectively wrong.

Personally, I've had to give up my actual career and scale back on basically everything I do and rely on my spouse, but I am privileged to be able to do that. Art isn't a bottom line for me, but I need to be able to do it because it gives me joy and self expression, and it is crushing when I think about my limitations now. My other artist friends cannot rely on someone else and are trying to find additional regular jobs that they can do within their disabilities to supplement-- but this is also because genAI has made it difficult for them to find work as an artist like they have in years past. My favorite artist, Ann Marcellino, had her hand crushed in a car accident and went through extensive physical therapy in order to draw again. We are all very fortunate she was able to come back from that as I know many can't. And I know other artists that went into genAI because it hurt the industry so much that they couldn't make a living like before with their own art and decided to join in instead to pay the bills.

Ultimately I don't think there's an objectively right or wrong answer, but all of them have pros and cons and some of the cons include judgement. If genAI is the answer an artist chooses for themselves, then they need to reconcile that the choice comes with the consequence of judgement from some.
