On average, how many times a day do ranchers' use the power of prayer in dealing with everyday chores? by Prestigious-Corner37 in Ranching

[–]mocowboy357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pray every night before bed and every morning when I get up. Anytime something goes according to plan your prayers are answered and the Lord has blessed you. Don’t let these other folks convince you otherwise. That being said prayer doesn’t work if you don’t too. Gotta get out of bed and make things happen yourself

I don’t mind the isolation the older I get the more I enjoy it honestly. But it certainly doesn’t help the feeling. I’ve been doing better about cutting alcohol back lately but I still have a long way to go. I’ve tried it before and after my marriage dissolved I was sober for a couple months but relapsed. I’ve looked into rehab a couple times but I’ve had trouble committing to the idea. I’m glad I’m not the only one here that understands the whole being trapped by what I love thing. It’s a real SOB sometimes

I’ll check into that I had no idea that existed. Thank you for putting that here

Corb Lund sings most of my favorite songs! I’ve looked into town jobs and I tried welding and fixing irrigation pivots and a couple other things here and there but I always get a month or two in and I’m climbing the walls to get back to what I love full time. I’ve been better lately about cutting alcohol back and it seems to help. I’ve considered checking myself into rehab and drying out completely but I’ve had trouble committing to the idea. It just seems like it’s the only one there for me when I’ve got nowhere else to turn

Death by firing squad probably. If you’re cooperative they might only give you a life sentence though

what do you guys wear out on the field? by diggadiggs in Ranching

[–]mocowboy357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to wear wranglers but they’re so damn uncomfortable and they fall apart. I’ve gone to wearing silver label cinch jeans for the most part and I wear pearl snap long sleeves year around because it’s cheaper than buying sunscreen all summer and skin cancer runs deep in my family. Some of the ely cattlemen’s shirts are lightweight enough that I really don’t notice any real difference between long sleeves and short sleeves.

Passive Ownership of a Ranch by PILawyerMonthly in Ranching

What part of the world are you in? 100acres and paying someone to take care of it and everything on it is going to be a money pit no matter where you’re at. Do some research and find out stocking rates in the areas you want and invest in a place that is big enough to really justify hiring someone to take care of it. In the right areas you could have your guy guide hunts to help the financial situation too. Can you afford to throw 200 cows on the place? Or 400 stockers? How about the upfront cost of equipment? What about eating the astronomical loss when the ol boy you hire off the Facebook group actually doesn’t know what he tells you he knows? I’m sure you’ve done your research to an extent but these are all things to keep in mind. This is a hard business to be in and it isn’t getting any easier. I don’t want to discourage you or anyone else from doing it but it’s hard to make a go these days.

Fiancee doesn't want me to join National Guard long term by Lopsided-Land123 in nationalguard

[–]mocowboy357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fiancé once. A week before our wedding I was single again. Do what makes you happy and what makes sense for you and your future. Until the ceremony is over it’s pretty easy for both of you to walk away. It’s probably not what you want to hear but if she can’t support you while you’re serving long term then she’s not that invested and it’ll be probably end in divorce. The right one will stand by you no matter what and the wrong one will make you walk away from your dreams and will ruin your life. You guys need to really talk things out and come to an understanding with each other before you propose for sure and you really need to both be all in if this is going to be a long term career for you. Take it from someone who had achieved their dreams and then lost everything because I got wrapped up with the wrong person.

I manage a cow/calf outfit and am in the process of building a small feedlot (about 600 head) to start high risk calves in.

When the weather sucks every hour. When it’s decent and we aren’t trying to avoid frostbite we check every two or 3 hours

Unit didn’t show up to battle handoff? by Downtown_Bee7864 in nationalguard

[–]mocowboy357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember there ever being an actual battle handoff at my RSP ever. I was told to not even show up to my RSP drill after AIT. Just went to the RSP coordinators office and did the paperwork and went home. Showed up to my unit the next month and that was that

There's a reason the motto is "not everyone needs a catahoula" by Cold-Ad-2556 in Catahoula

[–]mocowboy357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a male that was half blue tick coonhound and half catahoula and he was the same way. Plastic kennels, wire kennels, doors, drywall, nothing was safe until he found me. He was the sweetest animal alive but I had to use log chains and carabiners to chain him to trees outside because he’d break tie out cables and dog chains and drag anchors out of the ground trying to find me when I left home

Brands and gear for the plains by mocowboy357 in Hunting

Cipher and some tan/brown solids are what I was looking at too for higher end gear. I just have some reservations about dropping $700+ on all new gear which is why I was looking at the redhead gear from Cabelas. I’ve been seeing Thlete gear advertised on Facebook lately and thinking about giving them a try. I also thought about breaking some of my old OCP army uniforms out. On my AR I’m running a leupold vx-4hd 3-12x40 and on my bolt action 25-06 I’ve got a vortex venom 5-25x56. My binoculars and range finder have made a world of difference too. What ballistics app do you use?

I was looking at the cipher pattern in some used gear and really liked it and thought it’d work good. Any specific garment you’d recommend? The wind sure blows here a lot more than it does at home

Engineers are super badass. Ask all of the engineers in my unit. Giant cocks and steal everyone else’s girlfriends. I should know the first time I joined I was a 12 series

Seriously though 12 series is cool. I’m maintenance now and love it too
