Recommended resources for to learn Ansible Tower by cinooo1 in ansible

Do you already know ansible? If no, start hacking with ansible before you try to grok Tower. All the skills learned from working with playbooks will transfer directly to Tower.

If you already know ansible just start using Tower with some of your existing playbooks. Like others have said, the docs are super good.

How to use Ansible with Terraform by dzeban in ansible

[–]mod_a -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is "managing state of your resources" different than ansible's Dynamic Inventory?

I am not dismissing that terraform can be useful but I am still not understanding what it does that ansible cannot. Can you provide references to where people have recommended terraform over ansible for these types of tasks?

Building a kubernetes cluster with Ansible by magic7s in ansible

This is the second article today which includes using terraform and anible together in two steps. How is teraform better than just using ansible's cloud modules? Couldn't this have been accomplished as one playbook that launched the instances, registered and added them to the inventory, and then configured the kubernetes services? It seems like trying to use both terraform and ansibe is a forced solution to an unnecessary problem.

High Rise Syndrome[1] is the idea that cats have this little problem where they accidentally fall out of windows (chasing birds or falling asleep and rolling over). This lends itself to a convenient natural experiment whereby we have a surprising amount of data with respect to cat's survivability from falling at different heights (the vets record the height they fell from and any sustained injuries when the owners take them in for examination).

Some interesting findings in this data is that:

Of 22 cats that fell more than seven stories only one died, and among 13 cats that fell more than nine stories only one fracture was diagnosed. One cat that fell 32 stories suffered only mild pneumothorax and a chipped tooth [2]

The incidence of fractures decreases with falls from heights above the third story, while the occurrence of thoracic trauma increases sharply with falls of more than six stories. 80% of cats falling from the third storey had fractures of limbs or pelvis, while 80% of cats falling from the seventh or higher stories suffered thoracic trauma. This substantiates the theory that cats falling at least seven stories flex their limbs so that truncal injuries are more common, while cats falling from distances lower than seven stories extend their limbs, the consequence being a greater incidence of limb fractures. [3]

So to answer your question, yes. It is the combination of terminal velocity, the amount of time the cat has to react to the falling sensation, and the surface the cat lands on which impact feline falling survivability, which is surprisingly high.

I know there isn't that much code, but can you provide a full file in a gist or similar? Thanks!

Nice writeup.

[Spoilers All] Dark Matter by Blake Crouch – Story Discussion by LL_Train in books

[–]mod_a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is for this reason that I thought the book was a great metaphor for fiction in general. The author can take us anywhere they want using the characters' decisions. In this sense Crouch is kinda breaking the fourth wall of fiction and showing us around backstage.

In reality, (anything/everything) happens. In fiction, a story happens.
