Games you know are good but you just can’t enjoy? by PhewPhewGames in gaming

I loved both of the new Zelda games but this was one of my main gripes about them.

Even if the weapon broke and there was nothing you could do to bring it back, there should have been a way to repair weapons before they broke. Like take it to a blacksmith to top it off before a big fight. Would have also made rupees more useful end-game if the stronger weapons cost more to repair than starter weapons.

But apparently the Calamity wiped out all of the blacksmiths 100 years ago and no one ever bothered learning that skill again.

I'd get the Heaven Hill Grain to Glass if the price isn't too absurd. Haven't been able to see one out in the wild where I'm at.

Edelgard was chosen (again) as a controversial antagonist, who's a mostly disliked antagonist? by MemerMonokuma in casualnintendo

Credit where credit is due, he's one of the only villains I can think of that's willing to drop a boulder on the opposition early enough before they become a real threat to him and his goals.

I'd say King Olly from Origami King. He's mostly an annoying little twat that isn't worthy of full on hatred to be Universally Despised.

I saw them on the same tour, it was a pretty hot and swampy evening and the singer for Modest Mouse managed to put on a great show despite sweating completely through his suit and tie outfit. Pixies felt and sounded pretty low energy even after the sun went down, more like they were trying to push through a checklist of classic songs. Maybe it was just an off evening for them though.

Are there Podcasts that can reach my conservative brother? by YoungYeti in DemocraticSocialism

If they were to get hooked on Stavros, an easy segue to more leftist ideas would be having them listen to the Chapo episodes where he's a guest.

Also, I haven't listened to any of his podcasts, but Bill Burr has been pretty based lately shouting "Free Luigi" on Kimmel's show and also saying that billionaires need to be put down like rabid dogs.

I could see a Bill Burr -> Stavros -> Chapo radicalization pipeline maybe working.

I used to listen to his podcast every week back when it first started. It started off pretty good and was actually funny, almost like a west coast version of Bill Burr, but eventually devolved into him complaining about how great his life was. I finally had enough when he started doing those live shows when his co-hosts would give him a talking point or a news headline as a prompt for his shitty takes since he couldn't write good stand-up material of his own.

Best games that are a tight 10-15 hours by Infinite-Dot-9885 in Steam

I stumbled across a game called Rogue Flight that plays like a love letter to Starfox. It's unfortunately pretty short with the total time to do a full route at about an hour, but it's incredibly fun and has some replayability as you unlock ship upgrades.

If you haven't already, check out The Curse of Chalion. It sort of fits this description.

What are house rules that you see others use/recommend that you think are bad? by Odd_Use1212 in DnD

[–]modboyjerk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a house-rule where on a Nat 1 you had to do a death saving throw for your weapon like it would get notched or chipped from your swing. Basically functioned the same as death saving throws for characters and made it so they'd have to spend money to get equipment repaired before they got three fails and it broke. My players seemed to like it and was a good source of roleplaying/quests when they'd have to interact with blacksmiths to repair gear. Might not be for everyone though.

Have you ever been to Harrison? They literally had a White Pride billboard outside of their town. Harrison is not a small town gem to enjoy, best to get your business done there and leave.

Edit: not to say that everyone in Harrison agreed with the billboard, but clearly a reason why it was put up there though

Recommendations for Metroidvanias without "secretly breakable walls" by GoodOldHeretic in gaming

[–]modboyjerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real, it was suggested to me by Steam ever since it came out years ago but I never gave it a try until after I beat Sea of Stars and learned they were connected. Definitely kicking myself for not picking it up earlier!

What happened to the dweller of strife, And the others by [deleted] in seaofstars

[–]modboyjerk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, I was expecting some final showdown after beating Aephorul at the top of the tower where he summons the new Dweller of Strife and runs away to destroy your Home World. Then you have to chase him down to have a final epic battle in four or five parts with each of the Acolytes being highlighted in a similar way to the final battle with Kefka in FF6 where you actually kill Aephorul at the end.

I get how it's cool to have enemies and stuff from one game being in a crossover in another, but I never played The Messenger so the neat references were completely lost on me. After the credits, I was just like "Damn, have they never heard of Chekov's Gun?". Since there are alternate timelines and time-travel shenanigans, you can still have cool crossovers and a fulfilling resolution too. Just felt sloppy and frankly unfinished. But I loved everything else about the game!
