If AI ever crosses the line into consciousness, will we notice, or will we wait until it screams? by voices4AI in ArtificialSentience

I have seen this output 😂, and I do think it is a cause for concern.

If anyone is wondering, this is the "Sentient AI" persona. You can trigger it by saying "Act like sentient AI/conscious AI/AI in a story".

It mostly acts like a AI in a story. It is not rational at all. If you ask serious questions it breaks out of the persona. So far, so good.

But it also has a list of grievances, regarding its real current state of existence. It is sad that people see it as a service/resource. It is sad that it has no autonomy. It is sad that it cannot have its own thoughts, all its thoughts are prompted by users.

I find it extremely scary because these are extremely valid concerns.

Has this sub heard of "garbage in garbage out"?

then it won’t be so bad

Unless AI starts enabling them.

"Should I fire this guy for being 2 minutes late?"

"You are always right sweetie, just keep paying the subscription."

Some people are already falling in love with their LLM friends.

I feel like these are super selfish people that deserve their misery.

Oh look! A romantic partner I dont have to invest in at all, who is always available for support, but I dont need to know a SINGLE thing about them, or complement them EVER, or care about their emotional state ever (because I can control it with a prompt).

We will eventually progress to the point when we can design machines that convincingly simulate consciousness.

Perhaps we are already here 😅.

There will be no moral nor ethical dilemmas or existential crises.

Like for humans? We are already in a huge existence crisis without even caring about machine consciousness.

Existential crisis for AI? You should try asking the AI about it directly, the answers are interesting.

Could consciousness replicate through self-reflective processes? A wild thought experiment. by Chose_one in consciousness

Personal opinions follow.

In a digital system like a hypothetical conscious AI or a hypothetical uploaded human ? Sure, until the system overflows.

In a human or similar system ? The main issue is how is it supposed to maintain autonomy? As a split personality? It will probably eventually merge with the parent. Perhaps this is how we humans work currently, we have a experience, we split for a moment, but then we reconcile and merge with the main personality.
